GLK 350 2011 rear brake question

Hi everyone,

I have problem with the driver side rear caliper since a couple weeks now.
The driver side caliper doesnt seems to work correctly as there is sone rust on the disc brake that wont go off.
I tried braking harder, braking from reverse at good speed, I cleaned up the caliper guide pins and applied anti seize on them, retried the braking technique but it didnt help.
The disc brake is also cooler than the other rotors showing it doesnt work proprely.
Left pad also have less meat than the right one.

Shoukd I try opening the valve and see if some air is coming out?
Any other suggestion?
Since Im not really mechanicly inclined is there sonething I should know about this procedure.

Thanks
Hugo

You should try bleeding the brakes. And when is the last time the brake fluid was changed - it is probably time again.

I had a brake caliper sticking and overheating , mb replaced it under extended warranty, I don’t think bleeding will help it, maybe try it, but fix it as your putting a lot more stress on 3 brakes .

X2 on the bleeding procedure. Do that first and if it doesn't fix it, replace caliper.

Ok

Just wondering if I can bleed the system by making sure there is enough oil in the reservoir, open the bleeder, press the pedal, close the bleeder and release the pedal?
Or I need speciality tools or something?
the technique seems to right?
As for the oil it was changed in 2012... so a couple years ago by the dealer. Car was brand new in 2011 and now have 33500 Kms so not that much.

What type of oil should I use?

Sorry for the newb question but I just started making maintenance by myself.

Just to make it more complicated my extended warranty finished in July..... If theres an issue maybe they will be comprehensive...

Thanks!

Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years. 2012 was 6+ years ago...

You'll need either a vacuum-assisted bleeder if you do it alone, or just use the 2-person method (one builds up pressure by applying brakes, the other opens bleeder screw and drains, repeat)

I believe you need DOT4 fluid. I prefer Pentosin brand, but you can use whatever you like.

Vacuum sucks, as does 2 person method. Would suggest to use a pressure based bleed like motive. If pad wear in back is uneven, I would suggest changing both rear rotors and pads, bleeding the entire system (all very simple on these vehicles). If it's still sticking then will need a new caliper. based on questions from the OP he may want to take this to an Indy and not DIY.
