2015 GLK 350 Parking Brake Release Issue

Our parking brake release gradually started to get harder and harder to pull to which made it difficult to release the parking brake. I thought it was normal since we didn't own the car from the start but it finally got to the point where we had parked and applied the brake and it would not disengage after pulling the release lever. To get out of this stuck scenario I thought if I lift up on the engage pedal it might help and sure enough it cleared the brakes and the light when out. Took it to the dealer and they informed me they get about 2-3 GLK/ML's a month for the same issue. They completely replaced the parking brake assembly under warranty. We have 40K miles on it with no other issues. After they fixed it we realize how effortlessly the parking brake release should be... so if yours is becoming hard to pull to release.. you should get it checked out before you get stuck.

I had the same issue. I would pull the release and it wouldn’t fully release. It would after I tried it a few times. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the entire parking brake assembly under warranty. I hope it is better than the original. Works great so far, but it has only been about 6 weeks. I have a ‘15 with about 22k miles on it. I bought it last June and it had 16k on it then.

Good you guys mentioned this! I took mine to the dealer for B service and told the svce advisor that the parking break is hard to release. Well, they did nothing about it. The problem persists. Fortunately the car is still under warranty.

If you explain to them there are times you could not release it with the handle and it had to be forced from the back side of the pedal they should replace the assembly under warranty because it's a hazard.

Taking it to the dealer is waaaaay overkill.
.
Spray lubricant on the release mechanism/ cable where the pedal is - there are 2-3 YouTube videos showing this
