Direct Injection or port injection
As far as I understand there are two types of 207 engines KI and DI, one being port injection and the other direct injection. How can I find out as to whether my 2012 GLK is a 207KI or 207DI engine?

Otherwise calling your local parts dept might shed some light.

Up to 2012 the engines inject fuel into the intake manifold before the valves so it is a port injection engine. After that the fuel is injected at high pressure directly into the cylinder and the intake valve only controls the air into the cylinder. This is direct injection. All diesels are direct injection engines. The gasoline direct inject engine when it is idling sounds a little like the clacking of a diesel. Injectors for direct injection are much more robust as they have to deal with the compression in the cylinder and are thus more expensive. Likewise the fuel pump has to deliver gas at very high pressures. However, the direct injection computer control can keep the air fuel mixture at an optimum and since no fuel sits in the intake manifold, the start stop fuction of the engine at stop lights can be used to increase fuel economy.
