Couple COMAND Questions

1. Recently purchased a 2015 GLK350. I believe it has COMAND NTG 4.5 or 4.7. I'm curious as to what this button next to the screen does (didn't want to press it just in case).

What does the circled button do?

2. Is there a DEFINITIVE way to determine which version of COMAND you have? Can you find the version in the Engineering Menu? People typically say that ver. 4.5 has the brown color scheme and 4.7 has the grayscale. However, I also read that the last of the 4.5 versions also had the grayscale theme. I have a 2013 E550 as well and COMAND looks pretty much the same in both cars, but there are differences in how things work.

If you cover it with your thumb, does the display brightness change? (I never noticed it on mine.)

No idea on the version...

Here’s a site that claims to make it easy.

2015 GLK350 should have NTG 4.7.

If our GLK350 (RIP) had that button, we never got curious enough to find out what it did.

I imagine what John CC is alluding to is that may not be a button at all but rather the little lens of a photo cell/photo sensor. The cell would "sense" the ambient lighting conditions and adjust the display brightness up or down (down, for example, for night driving).

It is. I have one too, and if you cover it the display dims.
