WHY is this fan running?
Maybe it has something to do with the front door opening/closing? The more I read the more im amazed at how these things all work.
Theres a motor that moves that door open and closed. fresh air comes in from the front of the windshield down past the plastic trim, goes through the box above the battery then to the blower. To recirculate the air that door closes to the outside and air is then sucked in from the dash board.
Heres how the air flows, shown with the box above the battery removed.
Fresh air comes in at blue arrow above, recirculated air in red arrow.
The pre and face lift filters are very different. Maybe you're actually questioning if the engine compartment opening on the post will accept the pre-face lift filter? Don't know.
Seems odd that with the pre-face lift the squirrel cage fan is getting filtered air. On the face lift the fan gets unfiltered air :-(
Would be nice if you could use both together on the post-face lift. Probably would be too restrictive, though.
I change mine every year and it never gets easier/simpler/faster/less painful. It sucks. It actually gets three times more difficult for every year you get older 😞

I drove without a/c to grocery store, then drove to Wally World after ... then on the return home, I flipped on the a/c ... so exact same scenario.
Parked in the garage.
Kept checking every 15 minutes ... at the one hour mark after shutdown, that fan fired up.
HOWEVER ... it did not run at full speed.
I recorded a video for comparison, to include touching my finger on the running fan. But I'll not post this followup video, unless everyone complains

I waited ... at the 30 minute mark after it started running, that fan shut down.
So yea, @TimC300 is SPOT ON with their response!!

I'll probably order a few off AliExpress. Can find them for $2.36/each.

I wanted it after seeing how filthy it was inside the blower area. That opening technically leads right into the interior of the car. You can see the holes where the air flows to the blower from inside the car on recirculation mode. The area acts as a pass-thru for air for when the doors are closed to relieve the air pressure.

Certainly could be a test/check as TimC300 mentioned but that would be weird for it to be doing that check some minutes after you shut off the engine. At engine start up okay, right after engine shut off okay, although a bit odd, but minutes later?
