Unhappy

I checked on the status of my GLS63 in NetStar yesterday. It's listed as In Production with a Production Date of 3/31, which means it should be done, but the record hasn't been updated in the 14 days since.

some new reviews hitting.

one kinda sh*ts on the 63. some writers find it offensive, i suppose. their loss

http://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/m...to/first-drive

and then this one has a lot of great, hi-res interior pics. common criticisms raised. interior slightly dated, not as sporty a drive as q7.

The UK doesn't have big wide roads like we do in the states, so take their views on the size of the GLS with a grain of salt. And diesels are part of their DNA, gas-powered engines just don't feel right to a Brit. In other words, useless reviews for US buyers. So why does MB sell the GLS to European buyers first? Beats me.

I do however agree with the comment about very poor residuals. Our GL550 is our first Mercedes so I was disappointed by how much value the GL lost in 2 years with only 21k miles on it. Nearly $35,000 of depreciation! They should call it depression, not depreciation. Like a good friend told me, welcome to the world of high-end German cars (I'm not in Lexus land anymore). The new GLS 550 we ordered is not in yet but I told the dealer I couldn't let my GL550 go for that much of a loss. He hopes to sway me when it comes in but unless he offers a lot more, I'm keeping my 2014 GL550.

yep agreed...

depreciation is really a bummer. years 3.5 - 6 are really that sweet spot where the car still looks and feels new and is losing far less value.

Your right of course. Since I've paid the heavy freight for two years I may as well wait for the next full redo. Of course my dealer may feel differently when a $107,500 GLS is delivered with no immediate buyer. I expect a better offer will be coming, but if not, I'm good. We do really love the GL and my wife thinks I'm crazy for even wanting to trade up to a GLS so soon. It's a guy thing.

Wow Joe! I'm disappointed for you! After all of this time and posts.

On another note, we were contacted today by our dealer. Our GLS450 has arrived.

I'll keep you guys posted!

A full redo is coming in 2019 and also X7, something to consider will be released in 2018.

Hey JoeMa, if it makes you feel better, I read today that Mercedes is going head-to-head with the Bentley Bentayga using the next gen GL chassis and might be showing the Maybach SUV concept at the New York Autoshow. What ever they show, it'll be a clue what the next-gen GLS will be. And you can bet, the chassis will be absolutely sublime for the GLS if it's going to be used for a $200,000 competitor.

We're talking less than two-years from now we'll be seeing test mules and likely early press cars of the next-gen GL. And I know it's going to be awesome.

PS - The current GL has run its course really and the GLS refresh (which is really very minor considering) is really just the last hurrah for the X166. Nothing more. They won't even use it for a Maybach version. So it's worth waiting.

And yes, I do know the guy thing, it drives my wife crazy!! LOL

This reminds me of 6 months ago when we were all talking about whether the refresh is worth it. No two people are the same, but it's generally more worth it to the new buyer. The minor changes incentivize him to buy a car that's been out for 4 years. It's Mercedes getting the most out of their investment in the 166.

It's less worthwhile to someone who has the pre-refresh version. Off the top of my head, it's prob 20k cheaper to own your car for the next 3.5 years than it is the new one. Makes a lot of sense why someone would choose not to upgrade for a refresh.

I gave my dealer the number he would have to reach to make the deal happen but we're almost $7k apart. It would best for me and the dealer if they just sold it to someone else. We'll see soon enough as many 450's are being delivered everyday and the 550's should start shipping soon. A dealer in Westchester PA has 9 GLS450's in stock!

I thought it went to April 23, but that's for 2017! Argh. Anyway, here's the article.

What they're also saying here with this rumor (I guess that's really what it is for now), is that the current X166 isn't S-class ready, or at least not at a level to carry the Maybach name. Which in my mind means that the next gen GL(S) should be something else indeed.

you'r doing the right thing.. though we were not trading one, my GLS 63 that was to be bulit last week- dealer was no problem at all.. long story but coroporate was involved and essentially messed up the time frame, went back and forth for 2months, wasted my time and then call one fine day and say we called Germany and are building it next week! at that point after 2mos of back and forth for a confirmed built date- I asked for appropriate pricing and well, they came short- I walked away-- I didnt really care that they were building it when they should have already done so after they promised to 2mos ago-- your woking hard and buying quite a pricy car-- they should be more respectful..
walk away - trust me- the new one is not worth eating that depreciation, in a cpl years- your depreciation wont 'hurt' as much.. it will be justified..

that why my rule- get a car early in the 'new' generation
midcycle refreshes are great but depreciation on a midcycle hurts aloot more-- cuz then they' all saying-- o but the new redesign is coming out... please..

they should stop this silly midcycle refresh hype and just keep going 7 years with some updates and upgrades as apropriate..

to make a customer whos paying stupid money feel like he/she is not as important as the stupid car.. yea ... one corporate individual told me 'its a specialty car'
I'm like yea- its my 3rd AMG.. he didnt say much after that..

good luck!
