Support for iPod Classic in new GLS?

Picked up our new GLS 450 last night. We came from a 2014 GL 350.

My wife still has an old iPod Classic that she uses for her music in the car. In the 2014 we connected it via the Mercedes media cable, all functions worked fine.

The GLS just has USB ports. The iPod Classic connects and the tracks are playable, however playlists don't work. You have to navigate to a specific track to start the music. It looks like it's treating the iPod like a mass storage device.

Does anyone know if this is a limitation of the iPod Classic, or all iPods?

Thanks!

Answering my own question. Found an iPod Touch to test with, and when hooked up the car recognized it as an iPod and all functions (including playlists) worked. So, apparently the iPod Classic is not supported any longer, beyond being a mass storage device.

one of the reasons why i didnt choose the GLE over the ML, i do the same thing myself with the classic ipod media interface

what you could do, now i dont recommend this because it drains the ipod classic battery is you can get a bluetooth dongle for the ipod classic and stream from it, downside is you manually have to choose the song or playlist
