Being told my 580 is due to reach dealer in 10 days - this is torture
Built and needs to be transported now
You'd think my skin was thicker after how long I had to wait for my '19 G63 - that was only delayed 5 months
The costs of being the first to drive the newest of the new MBs

Dealer just texted me. My 580 is in, I can pick it up tomorrow. Last time I checked, it was still on hold at VPC Vance. I guess that's an advantage to living in the mid-Atlantic.

Thanks. Quick question for others who've taken delivery. Did you have the front license plate bracket installed?
They are required by law in the state I live but I've been driving for many years without one on my sports cars. I've never been pulled for it but have gotten a ticket when I was pulled for speeding. I'm looking at some early pix of how they mount it and I think it kind of ruins the look of the front grill, so I'm tending to not have it installed. What do others think?

It’s Mojave silver?
I have order that to, please send more pictures when you get it!
Im going to put Xpel stealth on it to protect and make it a cool look of matte.
My order is still waiting to be booked at the factory...

Yes, it's Mojave with the Grey/Black Nappa leather. I wanted Black/Tartufo but that was going to cause delay and I'd already sold my 2010 GL350, so didn't want to be without a SUV during the winter months.
Heading over to pick it up shortly. More to come.

so my GLS580 build is coming this week. We have had 3 GL - GLS550 prior. My issue that i am struggling with is i drove the X7 M50i and the lease price on that truck is close to $ 400 less a month than the 580. Is the 580 really worth that real money? It is kind of insulting as mercedes seems to have inflated their lease prices recently. I have to say in my town filled with GLS450, all i am seeing is them being turned in for the X7 and i can only assume that is because of the price discrepancy. Any thoughts on this? My wife who's car this is prefers the benz, but for $400, is this nuts?

Is there any data on the X7 reliability/build quality?
I had an X5 with the larger engine 10 years ago and it was always in the shop - monthly for the first year or so. I really felt the pinch when the warranty was over. The extended BMW warranty had deductible too and I always felt ripped off. I had terrible issue with sunroof and water. I joke that I have BMW PTSD (although my husband is a BMW fanatic). The kicker is when I went to an independent shop who said they loved X5's - they got a lot of business from them.
In contrast, my '14 GL550 is rarely in the shop for anything but seasonal tire switching and routine service. My warranty, extended warranty have covered everything, no cost. The build and quality are still good 7 years later.
That said, my X5 also had included maintenance for x years that I'm pretty sure included brakes. That was awesome!

To me it came down to a couple things - first was third row room and storage space. This is a 3rd car for us and we buy an SUV for the U - Utility. That means when there is family in town or a large group of people, we need something that holds 7 adults comfortably. And when I need to make a Home Depot run or haul a large box somewhere, I want a truck that can handle it.
The second is convenience. I have a Mercedes dealer within 2 miles of where I live which makes it very convenient for service. The closest BMW dealer is at least 30 minutes away. So, while I've owned a couple of Bimmers, I definitely prefer the convenience of a local dealer.

I was debating between X7 and GLS as well. Was leaning towards X7 as it was significantly cheaper plus I can do a custom order and get the car in 6-8 weeks not 6-8 months. But after testing both, Wife preferred the benz even though she drives a BMW and this car will be my daily driver. So to keep wife happy, we ordered a GLS (still waiting).
Like ksalno said, you're the only one that can answer your own question. For us, getting into a large 3 row SUV was for the Utility portion of it. So a larger/more usable 3rd row plus larger space behind the 3rd row was a big win for the GLS. That plus the 48V in the GLS allows the AC to continue to blow out cold air when the engine is stopped (our youngest son has severe heat allergy) were the two deciding factors in favor of the GLS.

Totally agree. I'm coming out of a 2010 GL350 and this 580 is light years ahead. So much to learn and only a 650 page manual! I'm making an appointment with the concierge at the dealer but hope to have most things figured out before then.
