Delays beyond the date in the bill of sale/ tracking your order
Folks, has anyone experienced delays beyond the date that is mentioned in the bill of sale at the time of paying the deposit? typically dealers already build some buffer when giving you the date but I am looking for any instances where it has been delayed even further.
Also, has anyone has a bad experience with the dealer where they swap your order and sell it to someone else and then tell you that your order is further delayed or your sell has been rejected by MB, etc? Here in Canada, it has happened to a couple of my friends, who later found out that the dealership did this perhaps because they were able to get more money for the same order elsewhere.
and the last question ... Does MB provide for an option to track key milestones in making your car like how BMW allows for custom orders? how do we track if the car is on schedule?
thanks

I don't know about the GLS but the GLE (built in same factory) has experienced a lot of delays. Some folks in the GLE forum ordered in spring of 2019 and still have not received their cars yet.
As far as dealer selling order to someone else for higher price, I have not experienced it but I can see that happening with some dealers. If it were me, I would stay away from dealers that have a reputation of doing that.

Thanks for your reply. I just booked and the build date is late March and tentative delivery by mid-May. Do let me know if you actually got your car today and wish you all the best with it. My dealer told me that in early 2019 there were delays and issues but now the production line on GLS is smooth. Not sure if its true or not... the proof of the pudding is, if the folks who had the build date of Oct 2019, they all should start receiving their GLS around mid/late January. if they get delayed then we will know that everything is delayed due to chain reaction.

The dealer can provide all that information for you. It is often wrong however due to Mercedes Benz giving wrong information here in Canada. I would say until.tou have a VIN all info. Is suspect from the factory. My delivery date in the system is today actually and manufacture date is Nov 21 in the MB Netstar system as of this past week. My dealer made.calls for me and it has not been made despite the MB Netstar system info. My order went on April 12 2019 and was given allocation almost immediately. It was delayed 4 times but has not changed.since Sept. Mine is a Canadian spec. GLS580 with no options. What is your situation?

Delays were on GLE from March 2019 for a few months . There is a a lot of information on the GLE thread "delay deliveries and production problems" My GLS580 I am told will not be seen until March at the earliest that will make it a year. GLS were delayed for a few months but are being built ongoing. My GLS580 had allocation and your dealer will nedd to confiorm they have allocation tyoo. I was told that only one GLS580 has been made for Canada so far. Prepare for a very long wait - for Canada at least it seems.

My GLS 580, which was ordered in late summer or early fall (just after the order book opened in the US), originally had a build date of Dec 16. That was pushed to Jan 6. The truck started production last week and completed today and was turned over to the VBC at the factory to prep for shipping.

No reason was provided but I didn’t worry too much since it was only 3 weeks and over a holiday where that probably included a week of shutdown for the plant.

Ordered Oct 21. Fully loaded except for E-ABC, high-end stereo and Heated 3rd row seats
Actually it's been delayed about three weeks. Originally had a 2nd decade January build, which means it could have been Jan 20th. They have assigned a build date of Feb 10th (before there was no build date assigned just the second decade range). So, unless this is like the airlines (they know it's going to be very delayed but they only tell you in 20 minute intervals to keep you from getting upset) the fact it has a build date actually assigned its a positive step

Just got word from my sales manager that my GLS450 build has been delayed by roughly a month. Went from a 2nd decade January build to a 2nd decade February build. Delivery went from mid-late February to mid-late March. Status is B3 so can't change options. Looks like this is going to be a 6 month long ordeal from order to delivery. So much for their original promise of 1.5 to 2 months.

did they tell you if they’ve assigned a production date on it yet?

Originally the Est Prod Date was 01/13/2020 (They didn't provide the original screen shot, just the date they told me was on it originally).

At this rate, it may be better to just cancel and order a 2021 model in a few months. I'd imagine 2021's will start showing up at dealers by Summer.

Just got off the phone with my sales guy. My order was originally submitted November 4th and yesterday was the first day I followed up with any inquiries after seeing some changes to the options on the online build tool after the recent price changes. Found out that my order is locked and the production date is set for 2/17. Originally it was supposed to be the 1st decade of March. Really glad since my first born is due April 10th and this gives me more buffer to have ceramic and PPF applied before the big day!

My 580 has completed it's build and is awaiting transport from Alabama to NY - looking like 1-2 weeks out at this point - original estimate delivery was last month - so a month off ain't horrible
