Extended CPO - can’t decide

I bought a 2022 GLS 450 (CPO) last week with about 33,000 miles on it. I have the option to purchase an additional two years of CPO coverage for around $3,500. I typically drive only 5,000–6,000 miles per year. Do you think it’s worth buying now? I was told it would be the cheapest if purchased within 30 days.

Only you can make the decision. You just have to think of it as an insurance against the risk of a major engine/electrical problem and how much risk you're willing to assume. The 450 has a very reliable engine but we also can't predict the future and if the dealer hasn't given you the complete history of your CPO then you also don't know what it's been through so far.

Regardless you should cross shop with Jeff Jackson as well as cross shopping with a 3rd party like Fidelity from @Highline-Autos.com.

I know it's too late now, but usually I negotiate the CPO as part of the deal and ask them to CPO it before I buy it. I did that for my 5-series couple years ago, and also for my GLS. However, I'd never ever pay for the CPO myself. If you need extended coverage, I would contact Trenton from Fidelity @Highline-Autos.com as Wildta suggested. I got extended coverage for 6-years and additional 60K miles from today on my BMW Alpina B8 from him.

For the GLS 450, I have no plan to get extended coverage. The car itself and the inline-6 is very reliable. Unless I get a very good deal, I think am okay driving it without. I still have 2 years anyway with Mbenz factory warranty as well as 1 year of extension under CPO.

Have you taken the wiring harness issue into consideration?

I haven't but I'd love to learn more about that. I am not aware of it. Can you share more detail?
Update: Just did a quick search, I found couple incidents and ALL of them are 2020 model year. But frankly how often these issues are. Am not seeing that many incidents like this.

That doesn't surprise me because it's time/mileage related. This is a part that should be recalled but they're replacing in kind!

"I asked my SA about the note, and he said "Oh, this engine has a known issue with the wiring harnesses; they often disintegrate during the spark plug job."

Sounds like a minor thing then, which they are also taking care of anyway..... Probably not worth the panic to proceed with a must have extended warranty for the inline 6 engine frankly.

You can buy it through most dealers. I bought one thru my MB dealer for my 2015 S550, but a buddy of mine with an Audi A8 bought his at an Acura dealer. Many dealers sell them.

Also, stick with the Platinum. That will provide the most coverage.

Don't let dealers make the commission... Just buy it from Trenton directly (he just posted above)

Yeah the dealers juice the warranty coverage like CRAZY. Our business model is minimum mark-up, and make it up on volume to customers across the country.

Why?
I like my Dealer, they were $38 more than Trent, and it only took 20 minutes.
I'm sure they would have matched his quote, but I don't play those games.

I gave you an advice, I didn't give you an order. Whether you take it or not is completely up to you and am sure you are smart enough to choose the right POC. Doing price matching isn't playing games. I'd surely ask Trenton to give you his best price or allow him to beat your dealership price, and I'd surely also ask your dealership to beat Trenton's price. You are buying the SAME exact warranty. Dealer or Trenton or whoever won't matter, you will use your credit card to pay and it will be paid to Fedility with some commission to either of them, so definitely go with the lowest price or whoever u want.

Finally keep in mind that this plan is on pro-rata basis. Personally, I trust Trenton to respond immediately. I've had bad experiences with my BMW dealers each time I sell a car, taking months to get my refund check for the unused portion of the extended warranty which anyway I don't buy that often. Give both of them the chance to get you the lowest price, I bet Trenton's will be the lowest among the two just cause I tried it.

My dealer quoted me 3800 for 60K/6-years plan. Trenton quoted me a number, and dropped it even further by 200 USD later settling on 2600 or 2700 USD (Frankly I don't recall) for the additional 60K/6-years (~70K miles until 2031) on my BMW Alpina B8. Note that mine has 7K miles and still under factory warranty so that's why the offered price was very compeititve. Not sure how much you are paying for your GLS. I have a 2022 GLS but still didn't run the numbers or asked Trenton cause I think I will sell the GLS in 2027 (when my unlimited mileage CPO expires) for a newer GLS or X7 by then.

If you don't appreciate feedback, then leave the forum (option 1) or do NOT ask questions (option 2), there are no other options if you don't want to hear or read what people writes especially when you quote them first. I'll remind you: you are the one who asked "Why" and you are the one who quoted me first when I never spoke to you or addressed any feedback/comment to you. You seem to personalize things for no reasons, instead of appreciating people sharing their feedback, and I think the lecture was in it's place if that's how you've perceived it. Again, do not chime in and ask questions if you don't welcome the feedback. You asked why and I simply answered your (why) questions by sharing my own opinion.

You didn't answer my question. Just a rant. Now another Rant.
Have fun!

Thinking about your rants. Read my post #17 and you MIGHT see that I answered my own question with reasons Why Not. I just assumed (I know) more comprehension from readers. My post must have been more confusing than I thought. Sorry.
