M3 CSL vs SLK 55

Yes, 'tis I! I'm baaaack :v:

M3 CSL vs SLK 55

Video 2:
M3 uses launch control, I powerbrake it off the line.

Video 3:
M3 doesn't use LC. I powerbrake again.
M3 CSL vs SLK 55 take 3

For all the races both cars had 2 occupants. Both running Shell V-Power 95. Races take place in and around Johannesburg at +- 6000ft above sea level.

Flame away. And yes, it's me driving the SLK. And yes, I did give 'er all she had :) Watch the ****ing brakes at the end of the one video. Totally faded. Even my 130i's brakes last longer than that.

Here's some pics from the meetup earlier that day (at a McDonald's for all you Americans :zoom: ).

Nice shots. I've never seen an R34 in person, for a reason though. Still love the looks of the CSL M3.

Tommy_s4 06-18-2006 03:57 PM

nice, so i guess we have to kick you out for losing to a ::gasp:: b..m...w...
lol Jk nice try

AndrewAZ 06-18-2006 04:34 PM

No shame in losing to an M/// the CLS has more HP and is lighter than the normal M3 and over seas they don't have the stupid 1,800RPM launch control limit. So I would say in the USA the SLK55 or CLK 55 vs M3 is a pure drivers race.

HLG600 06-18-2006 07:07 PM

I think you mean CSL. If it was that close to an M3 CSL, I believe stock to stock, the SLK55 would walk an M3. Nice videos, btw. :y

Improviz 06-18-2006 11:42 PM

The two did test pretty close, but the CSL was tested a bit faster:

M3 CSL, Sport Auto:
0 - 80 km/h 3,6 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,8 s
0 - 120 km/h 6,8 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 8,6 s
0 - 160 km/h 10,8 s
0 - 180 km/h 14,2 s
0 - 200 km/h 16,7 s

SLK55, Sport Auto, 2005:
0 - 80 km/h 3,4 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,8 s
0 - 120 km/h 6,3 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 8,3 s
0 - 160 km/h 10,8 s
0 - 180 km/h 13,3 s
0 - 200 km/h 16,8 s

SLK55, Auto Bild Test & Tuning, 2005:
0 - 80 km/h - s
0 - 100 km/h 4,9 s
0 - 120 km/h - s
0 - 130 km/h 7,3 s
0 - 140 km/h - s
0 - 160 km/h 10,5 s
0 - 180 km/h - s
0 - 200 km/h 17,1 s

SLK55, Sport Auto, 2006:
0 - 80 km/h 3,7 s
0 - 100 km/h 5,1 s
0 - 120 km/h 6,8 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 8,8 s
0 - 160 km/h 11,1 s
0 - 180 km/h 14,1 s
0 - 200 km/h 17,6 s

Pretty tight at lower speeds, but it seems that as speeds go up over 100, the M would start to walk away....exactly what happened in your case....

In the second race, he had a good rollout over you, and that gave him a huge edge on the hole shot. Gotta have those front wheels even-steven for best results...

Anyway, great videos!!

Nice videos, and pictures!

The M3 CSL is such a sweet car! Too bad we don't get them in the US!

btw, i can't help but admire that blue Nissan R34! What a nice ride!

IdriveFast 06-19-2006 01:06 AM

the R43 skyline held the nurburgring record until it was beaten by the 996 turbo.

that means it was faster around the nurburgring than the 360 modena

the R34 and the R33 both held nurburgring records

very impressive

mike10980 06-19-2006 01:11 AM

mmm those pictures were taken at McDonald's...mmm delicious

Hey Soulblade, I can't believe you didn't call me. We must test against your SLK55 at the next meet at the strip. Awesome sound that engine makes.

Rofl Sherwin. Gerardo and Shaun said that you were coming. You should :X them

I thought the Nurbur. Skyline numbers were BS but I checked it out and it was legit. Was also back in 1995, 11 years ago, but still legit.

On the M3 CSL, yes a special issue M3 beat a stock SLK. I understand AMG is putting together a special little package as well. When I see the M3CSL beat the special issue AMG, then I will be impressed.

Mercedes-Benz has announced a new special edition of the SLK 55 AMG that features many serious sporting enhancements. At the center of the action is an AMG enhanced 5.5L V8 that produces a prodigious amount of power for such a little coupe: 400 hp and 384 ft-lbs. of torque. And you heard us right, the SLK in this iteration is no longer a drop-top but a closed roof coupe. The new ceiling is made out of carbon-reinforced plastic that lowers the vehicle's weight and center of gravity. The meaty powerplant is mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission and propels this SLK to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. Other highlights include a restyled front fascia and other styling tweaks that are mostly functional and provide better air cooling. Larger brakes are located behind 19-inch AMG wheels and Merc has even included a height-adjustable torsion sports suspension.

The videos got taken down??

ash-c32 06-19-2006 03:54 PM

vids gone

I had a purple R33 GTR 95 model followed by a UK spec R34 GTR 00 model.
It was in grey, always wanted the bayside blue.
Fantastic cars.

SoulBladeZA 06-19-2006 04:06 PM

Yeah, had to take them down. Will repost later with the CSL's numberplate blurred.

I think the M3 CSL also has some very impressive N'ring lap times. Something like the 6th or 7th fastest of all time

Yellow R1 06-20-2006 02:54 PM

I have a special edition SLK55 - I'd run him.:rolf:

Damn! $9 bucks for a double cheese burger? I know that isn't in the U.S., but man..

Yellow R1 06-23-2006 04:15 PM

Its South Africa & currency there is Rand. $9 Rand = $1.25 US:slap:

Separate note - its a good thing all these guys & their cars have the their identities hidden. I'm sure these high schoolers (hanging out at a Micky D's parking lot) are top assets for MI6:rolf:

Video's back up:

Video 1

Video 2

Video 3

I don't have access to the original pics, they were edited because of some bad blood between the local forums. Blackmail et al can be avoided.

PS
We have the cheapest Big Mac in the world. Fear :rolf:

And highschoolers? WTF? :slap:

Youngest person there was 21. Me. Besides, I'm not even on any of those pics

I'm aware of the currency rates between the Us and other countries. Anyone can do a Google search and fine a currency converter. :greddy:
