Ml strange when almost stopped
2004 ml 500, 20k miles. when i am coming to a stop.. the car shakes a little and sounds like the idle drops off, and that the car is about to stop. it has not stop once, but i fear it will. mb says they can do nothing since no check engine light is on.
any thoughts on what it could be?

Hey Point,
I started a thread a couple of weeks ago addressing the same issue
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...hlight=shudder
It doesn't seem like too many people have this or realize it other than us. If it is the same problem I am having. Your tach will not drop but it feels like the engine is going to die. I am assuming the trans is trying to downsift but is having issues. My dealer has remapped the trans a couple of times but still no luck. The next time I catch it doing this (it the wifes truck so I don't drive it all the time), I was going to try manually downshifting to 1st and see if it corrects the problem. I will keep you posted if that does stop the stumble. If so, we will know it is the trans for sure.

How in the world can this be normal? Ours has done this before but of course the dealer cannot duplicate. Anyone else have this?

Pretty much a joke as far as fixing it. At least my deal keeps throwing parts at it. Every time in I complain and they throw something new in to try to fix it. Last time was a trans module. Still no fix and now it's out of warranty. Now I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the trans doesn't fall out the bottom at the next stop light.

I had same issue intermittently on my '03 ML350 since about 10K miles. Never could get it to occur when at the dealer. Finally, at about 48K, dealer experienced it. Odd, but they replaced my motor mounts and transmission mounts and it has not happened since. Not sure what the mounts would have to do with this behavior, but so far, so good.

Had to replace the EGR on mine.
Did the same thing. Never lit the CEL until a few weeks after it started. At first I removed the EGR and cleaned it out. That lasted a month or two. Then it started the ML shake again. So I replaced it. Problem gone.
When it started shaking, no code set. After the CEL lit, I went to Advanced Auto for a free read and came back something like <low EGR flow>.The EGR was all caked up.

Amazing. I had this problem on my '99 ML320 and now have the very same thing on my '03 ML320. I'm taking mine in to check this problem on Friday. I'll update if they find anything. Description of the EGR sounds like that could be it. We'll see.

same problem here...2000 ml320. I've thought it's the transmission mount. But I also think it might be electrical...if I'm in Drive and idleing at a light and hit the window switches, it does the shake. Also, if I'm stopped and idling and the aux fans kick in, it does the shake. Maybe it's the voltage regulator. All I know for sure is that it's driving me crazy. I know that if I take it to the dealer it's going to get a UTD (unable to duplicate). I already took it to a reputable Benz shop and got an UTD.

I have a new one...this happened to me a couple of times in my 00 ML320 way back. Never shut down, just threatened to. At about 2 years old, a pump/motor under the drivers seat for the vehicle stability control failed - warning light stuck on - not the CEL but VSS. Pump/motor was changed out. I cannot attribute it was cause to the shuddering, but it hasn't happened again since the new pump/motor. (knock on wood! )
