Satellite Radio Install

Just upgraded to 2004 ML from 98 ML. Looking for some info on the satellite radio antenna install (did search but was inconclusive). Is the dealer installed antenna a MB OEM part or aftermarket? Any photos of an install would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The antenna part that SHOULD be installed by dealers is an OEM part. Some dealers install aftermarket antennas with varying levels of success.

The ML is the one vehicle that can stand to have the ugly antenna, since it goes on the roof just in front of the TeleAid / Nav antenna. Although I would use the new small one anyway.

By the way, make sure that you have a "sat" button on the left side of the head unit, it should be in the row of ther buttons. If you don't have that, your head unit is not capable. I'm not sure when they started wiring for sat in the ML, but your car may be capable.

I do have the SAT button on radio but am very particular re: appearance of truck. I have seen way too many bad OEM SAT antennas (Audi, BMW, etc.) that I am wary to proceed without knowing what I am getting into.

Do a search and see what the new, small color matched antenna looks like. I doubt it would even be visible when installed on the ML.

Still unable to locate any photos of OEM Sirius satellite antenna install on ML (W163). Can anybody help me out? Thought it would be easy to find but maybe I'm not looking in right places, thanks in advance.

Well, actually you probably won't find any pics of the 163, but the antenna is the very same small body colored one that several people have put on thier cars. The location on the 163 is just ahead of the antenna at the rear of the roof.

hope this helps.
