How do I reset MCS security Code

I just bought my car. I live in Africa and I had to import it. It's an ML 320 jeep (2001 model). The RADIO CODE CARD was apparently lost in transit and the MCS won't work without the 5 digit code. Is there any way out?

vraa 06-01-2005 07:21 AM

61511

Try that for the code.

vraa 06-01-2005 07:21 AM

If that doesn't work, you will have to go to your dealership.

ML God 06-01-2005 10:43 AM

pull the radio out and give me the serial #. i will get you the code.

Does anyone have a link on how to take out the MCS unit, I lost my security code too. Is it possible to get the code via vin#?

I hope you are verifying that the unit is not an EBAY stolen unit. Not too long ago there was someone who was going to every Mercedes forum trying to get the code even though he was near a dealer but had all kinds of excuses for not going to the dealer. ANY Authorized Legitimate dealer will gladly give you the code after insuring the MCS unit belongs to the person asking for the code and is not stolen. Afterall that's what the code is there for.

owoowo & aznxtacy Please understand that I am not accusing anyone here of any wrong doing. It's just that it is very easy to get the code legitimately through a dealer with just a simple phone call.

I just called MBUSA 800 number and as I suspected they told me that I must go through a dealer because of a security issue. They told me that the dealer will need to verify that I am the owner of the vehicle. They said that if they knew me from previous servicing at their dealership (name, phone number and or adddress) they would most likely give me the code over the phone. When asked if there would be a charge he didn't know but said just call the dealer and ask. I did get the code for my 1998 ML320 over the phone at no charge from the dealer that I go to.
Good luck and let us know how you made out when you call your dealer. If you dont give them a credit card number they can't charge you for the phone call.

Of the 3 times I have gone to the MB dealer (2 different dealers) over the years, with 3 different vehicles - all out of warranty - I only got charged once... a big, whopping $10... just ten bucks.

As long as the radio/headunit has not been changed after the car was manufactured, any MB Dealer will cheerfully retrieve the radio code from their database. In most cases, for free as long as they know you've purchased stuff (parts, accessories, anything, etc.) from them at some point. The entire process takes less than 5 minutes and does *not* require the vehicle to be serviced, checked, inspected, etc. Just show them *any* form of proof of ownership - insurance, title, registration... virtually anything that is legit. They will call up the radio code based on your VIN.

As a helpful tip, the database page the radio code is located actually contains a ton of useful historical information if your vehicle was purchased through a 3rd party. :y Ask them to print it out for you while on the screen.

You made a mistake. After the 4JGABxx there should be two numbers. What are they?

MCS Security Code

My mother recently purchased a used 2005 ML500. Her battery died and now the radio is asking for the security code. She took it to her local MB dealer but the security code they are using brings up the 'Wait' screen. From reading the forums, it appears this happens when repeatedly entering an incorrect code.

I'm not sure how much I trust these guys as they were telling her she could just pull the MCS out of her older 2001 ML430 and put it in this car. I tried that but her 2005 uses fiber from the head-end to the amp so it works, but you can't hear anything. I would think the dealership would know that.

Could someone confirm whether the '53313' code she was given is correct? Her VIN is 4JGAB75E95A557885. Also, it's possible this radio was not the original from the car. The out of state dealership she purchased it from (not an MB dealership) got it at auction. I pulled the radio from the dash but I didn't see a serial number... only the stickers below. Where would I find the serial number? Do I need to open it up or would it be on a sticker that could have fallen off?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I will check my old MCS tonight for serial # location if no one posts up today. It may be inside the unit somewhere, but it should be on the outside of the case.

I do note that the two MB stickers show different MB part #'s. The third set of digits has "13" and "15". And the model numbers are differnt I am guessing this unit has been worked on.

I believe these are Alpine units, perhaps Alpine can help if MB cannot on the unlock code (reprogram it with proof of ownership).

Regards,
Jerry

The 10th digit in your vin# shows that you own a 2002 ML 500, not a 2005.

It's either you bought a "tagged" veh. or you do not know what year vehicle you own.

Babafemi 07-22-2013 05:48 AM

I think the mix up came from my dad whom I got the car from, he's the one that actually lost the radio code too. Can you help with that?

So your father didn't even know what year vehicle he owned. Very mysterious.

Call any local M/B dealer and they will supply you with the radio code after you supply them with the vin#.

Babafemi 07-22-2013 06:17 AM

Well, since you care so much, I'm from Nigeria. Most of the car dealers around here are not certified and they will do anything to sell. So I guess that was what he was told and that is not the issue here. I've been trying to get the code for a while, the dealers I've seen here don't have the code due to lack of certification I guess. The ones that have it are charging me for it. Please help if you can!
