My ML 500 is stuck!!!

My ML 500 is stuck!!!
My 2002 ML500 gear shift lever is stuck in the park position. I can override it by taking the gear shifter cover off and taking a screwdriver to take it out of the park position. But, when I have to park, I have to leave it in Neutral with the parking brake on. Could anyone tell me what the heck is wrong? No indicator lights are on at all. The truck drives fine. ITS JUST STUCK IN THE PARK POSITION GEAR SHIFTER WHICH IS LOCKED.

This is kind of common on the 02 ML's, try turning the ignition on and off a few times.

2010 ML550, 2010 E350 4M, 1966 Corvette Convt C2
There is I believe a solinoid that allows it to go from park to where you want it. This solinoid may not be releasing or has failed. Have it diagnosed at a dealer.

Your shifter is bad.....there is a solinoid in there to release it from park. Easy to change just remove your center console. Only 4 bolts hold the shifter in

thanks for the update MLGOD. Great to see you again!! I was hoping you would be checking this post. Do you know approx. how much this part costs? I'm out of my warranty right now. I have 61000k on the ML500.
