tranny fluid leak at shift cable

My new problem is a leak where the cable goes it the back of the transmission. I have the O ring and seal,,,but has anyone changed these? I am a little worried about just pulling the cable out. How is it connected in the tranny? Thanks in advance.

I had that same leak a while back. I brought it to the dealer to have them fix it since I didn't want to mess around with the transmission. I'm wondering if this is a common problem?

Yes, it is a very common problem.

But I would guess that there is no MB recall or anything about having it done without charge?

Either way, it's been fixed but it would be nice to get a refund

Remove the small heat shield, slide the small protruding plastic locking tab located on the electrical socket downwards (circled in yellow in the picture) and then pull the plug out, undo the small head centre bolt deep inside of the electrical socket and withdraw the socket which has two '0' rings fitted, (a small amount of oil will dribble out) fit the new seals and re-assemble....... Re-check the tranny oil level.

Note.......The above procedure takes about 20 minutes and will NOT cause any dash lights to activate or necessitate any computor reset.

I think he is talking about the shift interlock cable on the back of the trans (the cable is not there on tip shift cars). I would not recommend doing it yourself. The cable is not leaking, it is the sleeve behind it. Replacing the sleeve gets kind of tricky if you haven't done it before.
