Crunching from rear left wheel.

Its an intermittent problem, occasionally the rear wheel will just randomly crunch, and will be noisy for 10-20 minutes and then the problem will go away, took the car to Mb of Manhattan, they can't figure out what is wrong, I have gone on a test drive with a tech, we couldn't replicate the problem either. It kinda sounds like the brake locking up, and then letting go. Anyone ever experience something like this?

Arif? You have 190k on your ML55 you are bound to have had this at one point .

my dad had this problem on his ML320. it took about a week to figure out, but eventulay M-B dealership found that a bolt on the rear brake was loose/damaged... they said they would hafta order the part from germany it was so 'uncommon' ... well, after several minutes negotiation they "borrowed" the part from a new ML on the lot..
hopefully u dont hafta order it in...

but yeah, get them to check the brake assemble on that wheel (it was also the left rear on our one, so it may be a design flaw)
make sure the brake is taken off for inspection, we had the wheel off looking to see if bits of gravel were stuck but couldnt see anything

wow... sorry about that... long answer for a simple question.

short version:
