My MY01 stuck in park

My 2001 ML320 is stuck in park. I had to use a pen and go through the little door by the shifter to unlock it, but its still doing it. its 14 degrees out today, and feels even colder with the wind. Could this be causing it? Please help, I am going on a 150 mile trip this weekend to upstate NY.

Last resort is dealer...noooooooooo!

Could be the brake switch and that is so even if all the other functions are working. As for the cold/ice, could be but the only way to tell is to pull into a heated garage and let it warm up for a couple of hours.

well i was thinking brake switch, but my brake lights work (well the rear light is out on the driver side, but only when the lights are on so its the bulb, i think) and the BAS/ESP light isnt on.

Just because the brake lights are working does not mean that the switch is OK. It has many functions and some can be failed while others work just fine.

Where ever you buy it be certain is an OEM MB switch with the correct part number. There have been numerous members that have used aftermarket switches only to have the same or other problems follow installation. Actually if you go to a dealer it can be done in about 15 min and its not expensive.
