1999 ml430 106k miles wont shift out of 1st
Someone please help wont shift out of 1st no warning lights on.
Shifted fine the other day when hot outside. help?
already used the search option.

There's too many posssibilties what this could be. One thing you can try, though that's worked for several: Disconnect your battery cable and let it set for 2-3 minutes. This will reset your computer and your tranny MAY shift okay afterwards, but no guarantees. Make sure you have your radio code handy before you do.

The 430 is a piece of ...... My tranny gave out just over 100k miles. Have it checked out by a professional becuase if it is the tranny and you screw around with it, you will be looking at a 7000 dollar problem. Believe me I know!!

BMW E30. I've turned to the dark side.
start your car and turn the headlights on. look at the indicator on the shift lever, the "d" by the shifter must be lit. if not, you will be stuck in 1st gear. if you wiggle it and it lights up, your trans should shift fine. try that before dropping a couple of g's at the dealer.
