Mine rides better with the bilsteins, but definitely not softer..It's a AMG, they are not known for their ride comfort anyway. Pete, when I come up I'll take you out for a ride and see what you think...

the shocks I have an idea on how they ride... Ive been in plenty of sedans with bilstein HDs its the Bilsteins/ H&R combo that I worry bout...
What do you all think of doing the H&R springs with the stock shocks? Just gonna blow them out faster I think?

I believe It will wear them out much faster, Also the lower ride height due to the HR springs and OEM shocks might have negative effect on the suspension geometry, ride and handling. I have OEM springs and HD shocks so I'm hoping that it's gonna work out OK, so far, so good...

yes, it will decrease shock life but I am planning on not having the vehicle by that time... as it is I am at 125k on the original shocks and springs... WELL over do

I have the flat bottom springs... I think Im going to be going with the bilstein/ HRE lowering method but I am a little bit afraid of how stiff the ride will be... I keep this vehicle around for my mother to drive mostly while Im driving my E... although I do take long road trips in it.
I think I would prefer to do the eibach springs on the ML though

Yes, now that I've driven with my set-up for a few days, I agree with Darkmann about the above configuration being ideal for a comfort vs. looks compromise.

The one issue that's always bothered me with this setup, however, is that I'm not certain that the stock rear shock is sized for the H&R lowering springs (even though H&R says it is). Thus, continuous rough riding like what we have on NYC or DC streets may result in issues. I'm just not sure. The comforting thing is that I know of only one case where this has been an issue.

anyone else try this set up or am I the guinea pig? This actually sounds like a pretty descent set up

New photos
Just a few photos taken since the build has been completed.
While I think it would look better if it was lowered more, that might take a little too much away from the drivability.
They've been posted in the photo gallery. Page 7:

latest fix - Brake Stop Lamp Switch
I'd read about the frequent BAS & ETS warning light issue when I first purchased my ML about 1500 miles ago and bought a stop lamp switch from the dealer as a precautionary measure in September. Lo and behold, the 2 lights started acting up on my way home from work on Thursday.
Despite being hungry and tired, I went to the parts bin, dug out the switch and had a look under the dash to see what would be involved in replacing it. Well, I can tell you all, having the dealer replace this part is totally unneccesary. I simply removed my tie and jacket, rolled up my sleeves, grabbed a screwdriver and had the new one in within 10 minutes! Bravo, lights gone!
I'm almost looking forward to it failing again because this repair was so easy!

You should think twice. Next time the light goes on. It will be for the lateral acceleration sensor or ABS unit going bad.. I just had my ABS unit replaced. All lights are off now and full braking pressure is back..

I agree with fkong777. Don't wish this becasue I have had this failure mode twice on my now sold 02 320, once on my E and twice on my 05 ML500. The 320 was a switch and something else. The E was the switch. For the 500, they replaces several control units, including the ABS, as I recall. The steering angle sensor was also replaced. In fact, the steering angle sensor resulted in the entire steering shaft eing replaced. Not that you'll have my problems, but watch what you wish for!!!!
