W163 - What Engine Oil For High Milage SUV

Hi there, thought i start a thread to see what some of you are using on your 150,000 Km+ (100,000 miles) W163's. I got my car a few months ago, and its now time to change the oil, so want to make sure i get the best oil for it.

Some research i have done is that Mercedes used to recommend 0W-40 Mobil 1, lots of videos and threads about this. But, i just called Mercedes here in Vancouver and they now use Shell 5W-40 in all their cars, including AMG. I also went to a local mechanic here that focuses on Mercedes, and he too said use 5W-40 any brand.

Mobil 1 have this High Milage version, its a 10W-40 that sounds like a good idea, but i cant find it in stores here in Canada, perhaps the shops that carry Mobil 1 could order it? Not sure?

So, i was thinking to get 5 or 10W-40, Mobil 1, and then change oil every 10,000 Km (6,250 miles) What do you guys think? I have a ML55 with 165,000 Km.

Only use oil with MB approval sheet 229,5. Mobile 1 0W-40 or 5W-40 is good. It has the 229,5 approval.

2003 Black E320
I have 185,000 miles on my 2002 ML500 and 154,000 on my 2003 E320. I started an oil change regimen that works great for me. I also service cars for friends and family and have started this with those vehicles as well.

I use Liqui Moly Engine flush and let it run in the vehicle for 10 minutes or so. Then I drain the engine. For My Benz's I use Mobil 1 0W-40. For the other vehicles I use what is recommended or whatever the owners normally use. For my cars I use Mann oil filters and for the other vehicles I use Bosch, Mahle, or other European made filters. Once I add the oil I add Liqui Moly Ceretec as an additive. This combo has worked well for me for a year now. All engines idle quieter and run smoothly.

The owners manual says not to use engine additives. The way I see it, the warranties on my cars expired long ago. I need whatever leverage I can to make sure my vehicles are in great shape.

I will change my transmission fluid in the E320 again next week and switch to Pentosin fluid and add the Ceretec.

Interesting info there, the only reason i asked initially is that both Mercedes and a local Mercedes certified repair shop here both advice against 0W-40 (recommend 5W-40) instead. I did read somewhere else that the reason for that is that 0W-40 Mobil 1 didn't come in large containers, hence they changed.

But i am in the same boat as you, and my warranty is long gone too, just want the best oil possible to extend the life of my engine as long as possible.

Would be interested what others say about this also.
