How Many Miles Do You Have on Your ML???
Recently had to do the support bearing and front axle rebuild as the joint started making some nasty noise too.
Head Unit lcd went out again and sent it to United for a $250.00 fix (second time).
And unusual (but read about other instances) front lower shock bolt snapped off.
Could not drill out the broken hardened bolt out of the arm so had to replace the lower front control arm.
Since I dumped some cash into it, I put a new set of tires on.
WOW! drives like a millions bucks again. I forgot how nice a new set of tires feels on this truck....I'm drivin' it to the end too!
186 327kms
Have recently replaced the turbo @ 180 000kms (the pressure side turbine wheel sheared off)
Replaced glow plugs @ 175 000kms due to the indication light coming back on after starting
Replaced engine and gearbox mountings @ 160 000kms
Still running on the original front rotors
Serviced every 10 000kms, doing an air filter and oil filter change with shell helix 5W-40 full synthetic oil
Gearbox service at 120 000kms
fuel filter changed every 40 000kms
Running with 2 stroke oil added to fuel @ 200ml per tankfull
De catted
my fm radio has not volume, and command system is not calibrated but all in all it LOOKS very good and still rides nicely. live in massachusetts.

Only major problem: Replaced front drive shaft @ 170,000 miles.
Has a few minor problems that I will fix when I have time.
Do all my own PM, most repairs.
Getting hard to find aftermarket tires in SE size and local dealer only carries SP5000 which only last about 12,000 miles.
So when it finally came off the boat I collected it and drove it home. It was immediately apparent that I was going to run into issues as a check engine light was on and intermittent BAS light.
In the next few days it slowly ran out of power and to top it all a coolant hose, which was crudely attached to the expansion tank, ruptured. Fortunately we stopped before it over heated.
So recognizing that it may have been a bad purchase I have set out to try and turn a potentially bad situation around.
Before doing anything I solved the coolant hose problem and flushed the cheap coolant out replacing it with recommended fluids.
I have since bought an OBDII reader and found that the ECL was on due to a misfire on 2 cylinders thus explaining the loss of power.
After removing all 16 cheap spark plugs found installed and replaced them with Bosch plugs and 2 of the coils, I was able to get the engine to run very smoothly and now no ECL light and strangely this also rectified my BAS light on issue. During all of this my kids found that I speak another language.
I did an engine oil service opting for Mobil 1 synthetic.
Both torsion bar bushings were replaced which resolved the clicking sound from underneath the car. This was supposed to be a 15 minute job but took the bulk of my day because I had to wait for the glue to dry before reinstalling the units.
I have stripped the drivers door panel and replaced or repaired all the door weatherstrip and panel clips. It sounds much quieter in the cabin.
Next week I intend to drain the transmission fluid and service. I suspect that the transmission fluid has never been replaced because the transmission cap seal seems to be original. The transmission seems fine but I am not taking a chance with it.
I found an intact ML320 in the scrapyard and managed to get the walnut finish off, electric water pump, Bose radio, all the door weatherstrip, engine cover and a brand new matching tire which I needed all for $150. Would have taken more but it was grey opposed to my light brown finish.
There remains a quiet crunching sound at low speed under the car so to hopefully resolve the sound, I intend to do a transfer case oil flush.
I am not a mechanic, just learning and having fun as I go.
Meanwhile enjoying a great ride.
