Question Door not un/locking with remote.

Hi all, I have one of those ML problems listed on the sticky thread but really need help to put it right please.

The nearside rear door will now only lock if I manually push the button down. It only unlocks if I pull the interior handle. When I lock with the remote, the button goes down then pops back up again leaving the door unlocked (although the alarm works). The lock tries to work each time I pull away after a slow start, so it can be really annoying. I resort to driving with that door continually locked which is inconvenient.

I have taken the interior panel off the door, but had to laugh because I really didn't know which part the problem would be in so I put it back on again

I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what the problem is and how to replace/repair it.

Thanks in advance.

Oh yes the car is an 02 ML270cdi (W163)

Sounds like your MCS unit could use a reset, unlock all doors, disconnect the battery for 15 minutes, and re attach the battery - after that try remote locking and unlocking... if that doesnt work, I'm sure another member will chime in with more info.

Thanks for your input. Will give that a try this weekend. Assume I will have to reset everything after that ie radio code; sunroof; windows? I thought this would be more of a mechanical problem because all the other doors lock and unlock on the central locking system, just not this one and it does try, but then gives up.
Thanks again SL-ML-C

make sure all windows are up, it should self-calibrate.

No, the battery disconnect did not solve the non locking door problem. Does anyone have any other ideas please?

Apparently it may be something to do with a sensor?

Last night, I pulled up at home and the alarm just started 'blipping' getting longer and longer in tone until I locked or unlocked the doors with the key fob.
I've noticed that the indicators do not flash when I lock the doors but do flash when I open them. Then the alarm continue to 'blip' again starting off with a short sharp 'blip' which eventually gets longer and longer.

Had to disconnect the battery in the end so as to not annoy the neighbours too much.
Reconnected battery this morning, still doing the same.
Any ideas out there? I beg your advice!

Try changing the battery in the remote, I had a similar problem in my '02ML and that cured it.

possible you might have a bad micro switch in the door latch not indicating correct position of lock rod or latch. a scan tool test is the correct way to diag.
