gas tank sending unit access

I just bought a used 2000 ML320 with 6490 miles on it. My gas guage never rises above the 1/4 mark. How can I check the sending unit??

Wow, that is low mileage.....

for a 2000. Just take it to the dealer and have them replace it under warranty. It is a known problem. I believe the unit is submerged in the gas tank. Big pain to check on your own.

Sounds like a classic sending unit gone bad. The sending unit is in the gas tank, and is accessed by removing the left rear seat, lifting the carpet, and prying off the cover in the floorboard.

ML350
The sending unit is accessed by removing the rear seat. That is what the MB Dealer told me the 5 times I had the sender / fuel pump combination replaced on my ML320. The last time the sender was replaced was because of the gas gauge stuck at 1/4. This fixed that problem.....
