Engaging low range?
 

As with many I suspect, my ML doesn't go off road. No snow here and we haven't taken it to Tahoe in 4 years we've owned it. Shame on us. Anyway, for those in the know, is it advisable to periodically engage the low range? My previous mechanic had suggested to run our old Explorer in low range periodically at lower speeds for a mile or two when the roads were wet. Any advice is appreciated and the more specific the better. Thanks. Appreciate all the learning from this forum.

Yes, it is advisable to engage the low range from time to time. The motor that engages the low range mechanism has a tendency to hang up if not exercised for long periods of time. You only need to drive your ML for a few feet in low range to be effective in getting everything loosened up. I try to do my ML's about once a month.

You may want to change the fluid in the Transfer case as well if it has never been replaced. This will keep your low range in great running shape...:zoom:

Had that done by that same mechanic last year before the CPO extension ran out. Thanks for the advice.
