ML 430 just quits runnig and has P0300 code
OK my ML has quit on me 4 times now. It will running fine and then just
like someone turned the key off it stops. It will crank but not fire. Let it sit a half hour and it starts and runs a few miles and quits again. I had to trialor it the last time and when I got back with the trailer it started again I drove it on and it started and I drove it off the trailer. I got the check engine light and the code is P0300 which is a misfire was detected. Further checking the code said it could one of 4 things. Bad battery mines new. Leaking valve cover gasket, leaking hose's or the fuel filter or pump., I think it's the later. Is there a tool for taking the fuel filter off? IF so how much or can you rent one and where. Of is it the pump? Is there any tests. Any help will be appreciated. NIC |
likely its a bad CPS. Easy fix.

Thanks for the quick reply. Now for someone new to MB what is the
CPS and a link to what needs to be done would surely help because I honestly don't know what a CPS is. Thanks Nic Edit: Ok the CPS is the Crank Position Sensor. I've had one go out in my jeep and it never started again. the ML starts after its sits for a half hour or so. Like something is cooling down. It then starts and runs for a little bit. (the run time is shorter each time), The check engine code is P0300 and it says nothing about the CPS Where is the CPS located? |
This thread will give you the location. 8 cyl. engines are more difficult to access and removal of the wheel opening splash shield might be necessary.

Most CPS failures show the exact symptoms that you are experiencing, quit when hot, will start after it cools but will quit again after warm up. You may wish to have this failure verified and repaired by a dealer. The code you mentioned has nothing to do with the CPS and is likely the result of another issue with your ML. CPS failures often do not throw a code.

Thanks guys for all the info. It was the CPS and like you said it wasn't easy
on the V8. It's torx E8 external socket the holds it in. I use a bunch of 1/4 inch socked extensions to get it out. I came for out side the fender Once I got the CPS out and replace the fun part started. Since it not a load baring part instead of putting the Torx back I used a Phillips M6X16 Screw. I super glued it to the phillips bit and let it sit over night. Super glue held it in place while your trying to find the hole you can't see. Once started and tighten just a tip too the side and the bond breaks and your done. Again thanks for your help. Nic:zoom: |
