Replaced shocks, now vehicle is very loud.

2002 ml 320 500,500 miles 2017 and E550 20K miles
Replaced shocks, now vehicle is very loud.
The 2002 ML 320 with 200K miles finally got new shocks.
Before the shocks were replaced, the cabin was quiet. The shocks are MB replacement.
After the shocks have been replaced, the cabin is overcome by road noise. On the interstate, at 75 MPH, you cannot carry on a conversation between the front and rear passengers.
Any thoughts as to what caused the increase in noise? Is there a body plug that was not replaced, or insulation that is missing?
