1st MB purchase of ML Totaled on day 10; ML55 help
I purchased a 2000 ML430 with a claimed replaced cluster that reflected 196k. I found several oil leaks and issues with the vehicle after doing research deemed I could do all the fixes on my own, purchased the truck for only $3300 with a 9.5/10 interior and 9/10 exterior put about 700 in so far extra and just got into inspectable shape running close to perfect, on the way to Advanced Auto I was smashed in on the rear end..... they almost avoided me but smashed left side of the bumper cracking tail light and smashing corner of bumper, my rear wheel on that side is now cocked out and the end of the frame there pushed in quite a bit. Assuming this is frame damage and unrepairable I am assuming it will be totaled out.... How much for, I have no idea. Seeing as I can show hundreds of receipts from past week alone I hope the at fault drivers insurance provider (Old Republic Insurance) will do me solid.
Not knowing the outcome of claim as it happened today, I have already begun to look for a replacement.
I found a 2001 ML55 in what appears to be solid condition very cheap from the original owner. The concern is it has 231k miles on it. I had familiarized myself with the 430 very well before I took on the other project. Should 231k in this engine scare me and is there common issues, IF i were to get it what should I do right away, Ex: change head gasket/ timing chain etc??
Thanks

Couldn't agree more...
The economics of buying such a high mileage vehicle for on road use are tough to justify.
