Diagnostic help, AAM, DAS, ignition ring?

I went to start my 2001 ml320 and it only turned over for a moment then cut out. I made a second and third attempt with the same result. Now I'm getting a "start error" on the dash. At some point I set off the alarm but was able to shut it off with the key fob.

The indicator light by the radio does not blink with either of my keys in the #2 position. Initially my key fob would still unlock the doors, now that function is also disabled. I've tried the battery disconnect for 5 min trick, but that does not work either. I've checked the fuses under the hood, but they all look fine.

I tryed reseting the key fob by putting it in position 2, then holding the lock button while pressing the unlock button 5 times then any other button, but it didn't do anything. (Maybe I'm doing it wrong?)

What do you suppose is the problem? Is it my ignition ring? Or something more?

Your key fob issues with the convenience features are not connected with the starting issue.

Check you car battery and make sure you have 12v+------wada you have??

Change the key fob batteries!

Key fob batteries have nothing to do with starting the vehicle. The are only necessary for central locking and unlocking.

It's a key recognition issue (DAS). More often than not it is the Control Unit and you can replace it yourself.

If that does not do the trick, then it is the DAS Module which is housed in the EAM Module. But you cannot replace it yourself because it must be coded by the dealer.

I'm getting 12.1 volts at the battery.
