ML brake booster swap

I found numerous threads describing the hissing noise from driver's dash that indicates a leaking gasket in the brake booster. Right now it comes and goes but I'd like to plan the fix now. My 03 ML350 has booster A163 430 06 30 and the dealer's price for a new one (supersedes to A001 430 07 08) is obscene. As suggested on many threads, I went to the local wreckers and, with just my year, make and model, they handed me a salvaged booster A163 430 01 30. Visual exam shows the seal is still good and pliable.

However, those many threads have resulted in some confusion on my part. The salvaged 430 01 30 checks out as being from a pre-03 ML and the discussions say that, although physically identical, there were changes to internal wiring of the brake light switch for the 03-05 booster 430 06 30. So it will fit, but will it work? That part isn't clear to me so I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with experience swapping out their leaking brake booster. Thanks in advance.

The booster # A001 430 07 08 is correct and will be hard to find online. The alternative is to buy a Uro seal and replace it yourself.

Understand that once you start and things do not go right you have to buy a booster, used or new.

LOL, I have the seal on order as well for just that reason! The booster part number 001 430 07 08, however, is a current EPC part which is backwards compatible but ridiculously expensive ($1600 Canadian). If I want to use a salvaged booster, I'm back to the uncertainty of whether the 430 01 30 I just picked up from the parts yard for $175 will replace my failing 430 06 30 or is there something about the brake light switch thingie that will cause a problem?

need2speed,
Have you tried this patch repair? post #57. this one worked for my application and I decided to use bicycle inner tube for the wrap to seal it and stop the hissing.

Ah, very clever solution. In my case, I'm really looking for a more durable repair. The seal kit from fleabay has arrived and I'm waiting to hear from the parts dealer if they can find a correct booster for 03-05 ML (with the internal brake light switch). Between the two, I hope the problem will be cured.
