2000 ml320 tire options

I have always kept the standard (for US W163's) 255/65/R16 tires on my vehicle. I need new tires and I have an opportunity to acquire a set of 4 very cheaply, but they are 225/75/R16. I noticed that those are the standard tire for non-US models. Can I install those on the same wheels that I use for the 255/65/R16's? I recall reading that one user actually preferred those over the wider tire, but I do not now if he changed the wheels. Thanks!

Your tire width is reduced by just over an 1 inch. All else is pretty much the same.
Your gas mileage should improve slightly.
These should be fine.
When you say "non-US models", I presume they are still DOT approved.

Thanks for the information. I was referring to the non-US model of the ML320.

You have incorrect info. W163 never had 225/75/16. Standard on a 16" rim is what you have now 255/65/16. Buy the correct size 255/65/16

Art,
are you certain about that?
I recall seeing that tire size for MLs on a UK website awhile back. I'll look for it on my bookmarks.

edit:
225/75/16 on 16x6.5 et47

Thanks for your response Art.

I believe my information IS correct. If you go to any tire retailer website in England, Spain, Germany, or other European country, the original tire size for W163 is listed as 225/75 R16 (here is one example; https://www.oponeo.ie/tyre-finder/s=...r=1/225-75-r16 ). So my question is; will the U.S. model wheels accommodate that size? Or are my 8" wide wheels too wide for a tire that was originally intended for a 6.5" wide wheel?

The tires are designed for wheels 6"-7.5" wide. They will work on a 16x8 rim.
Owners with jeeps and cherokees use this tire sizing and wheels (16x8 /15x8) alot.

Thank-you...I think I will proceed and give them a try.
