Anyone Knows if a used ML can be imported into Canada from US
Hi,
I am looking at an option to import a pre-owned ML from US to Canada. Has anyone done it or knows if there will be any implications to meet Canadian requirements? As the ML is made in US, I do not expect any custom duties except for GST.
What about E-class, it is made in Germany. Will there be customs duty?
I have gone through govt websites but it does not provide any specific information.
Thanks
Vivek

I am in Vancouver and I can answer your questions pretty easily. You are correct in the fact that the ML that is built in the US does not have duty however the registrar of imported vehicles in Canada has a grey area for certain cars. There is a list of cars you can import and certain years of cars that you cannot. For example, I own an F355 Cab in LA and was going to bring it here, in the Registrar Ferrari's from 1990 to 1999 are NOT allowed into Canada.
Mercedes has a huge grey area. In the registrar you are NOT allowed to bring in anything unless MERCEDES OK's it. Which means they are controlling what comes into the country. In the registrar there is not 1 model of Merc that is allowed. Each car company has a list except Mercedes allowed into Canada.
Chances are they will not allow newer vehicles into the country because of the price difference. Mercedes has taken a stand.
Other companies such as Porsche do not care that is why there are so many US 911's in Canada. Ruined the Canadian Price market for the 911's. Some dealerships do not even work on the US models of Porsche.
For a higher end car like these you MUST do your research. In your case, just call Mercedes Canada.
Good Luck...
(The E, if allowed will have 6-7% import duty)
