Kicking myself for not getting the diesel!!
I should've researched it more! We have close to 2k miles on our 350 and haven't even had it for a whole month yet. I can't tell you how many times I've been to the gas station already!
If you drive a lot and are undecided between the 350 and 320CDI, learn from me - GET THE DIESEL!

...have you spoken with any dealers in NJ yet about a 350/320 cdi?
If you'd like I can have my guy at Ray Catena (the biggest, and arguably the best dealer in the state) get in contact with you.

The turnpike is such a blast during the day..its at night that it can get annoying when i come home from work..
Yeah I have been visiting the Mercedes dealership in Princeton like once a week..i just show up and sit in the show room..i think they are going to get a restraining order on me..the guy who sold my dad the s550 has been talking to me about the 320cdi but im used to monster american suv's so im alittle nervous about getting something so nice when i have a habit for being less than nice to my cars..

Agree with the get the Diesel statement however I want to add that mileage for me has been around 19-20 around town and 24-26 hwy. This thing starts to loose mpg at anything above 70-75.

Ordered my diesel from Princeton in April, picked it up in July. I live close to work (often ride my bike in) and I travel quite a bit, so I have only 2000 miles on it thus far.... still have a quarter tank left on my 3d tank of gas (4th tank for vehicle). I've averaged 23 mph...got 26 mpg on a road trip to DC.
I bought the diesel largely because I liked the torque a lot better on the diesel than the 6-cyl....the gas mileage is a nice bonus; so was the price of gas when diesel was 65 cents less than premium in early summer.
This is my first Mercedes, and it was a serious competition between the ML and the X5. I couldn't be more pleased with my decision!

Princeton treated me very well. I got an excellent price and, more importantly to me, I was able to order a 2007 to my specifications. I shopped around for bids via the internet and also went to Cherry Hill. Few dealers were able to still order 2007s in April, but I was uncomfortable with the uncertainty in price/options for a 2008--and I didn't want to wait that extra month or so, either. Princeton gave me a very aggressive initial offer; I was not able to beat it anywhere else by more than a couple hundred dollars.
I visited several times, but did most of my negotiation via email. When I went to the dealer to sign the paperwork, it only took 30 minutes...no games.

How I so wish current TDI diesels were legal in NY State (I'm on LI) .. ridiculous it is in NJ and Penn, and all points west, but it isn't in NY State 'cus they conform to Cali's emission's laws ... the prevailing winds of the US blows the pollution from other states over us anyway! We have to wait for desirable bluetec vehicles from MB; only have the E sedan @ the moment. M or diesel 4-matic E wagon would be perfect for a 4-season daily driver once MB starts making them and selling them here.

You can buy it used, with over 7K or 8K or so (I forget) miles on the odo. But yes, the vehicle still needs to conform to the emissions laws on inspection of that state for that year, regardless of fuel type I'm told... so I don't know how I'm seeing NY plates on the late model diesels I see around here sometimes. I almost stalked a Jeep Liberty CDI owner and followed him home to ask him the particulars of how he passes emissions, but I thought better of it. (lol)

I believe that NY has a "replacement vehicle" provision that lets you bring a replacement vehicle (such as a diesel) into the state that you acquired while travelling out of state if your previous vehicle was totalled in an accident OR suffers a mechanical failure that exceeds the value of the vehicle to fix. I think you need to provide evidence in the form of a repair estimate from a repair facility in the latter case. I believe I read this somewhere in NYS code when I was looking for something else there a while back but am not certain.

You are correct! I have read it as well. I even considered buying then driving a complete junker to PA, just so I could let it die there by removing the oil & driving or something!! doesn't answer how I pass emissions of the diesel tho. I really have to look into that again and find out an answer this time.

Where on the Island are you? I have family in the 5 towns area and go up there on Holidays, in fact I have to go to Woodrows Deli every time I'm there for a couple Kosher Hot Dogs
