'08 ML Power Outlet Question

Hello.
I had an '06 ML which the power outlets shut-off the supply when the ignition is off. However, I just renewed my ML to an '08, the power outlets stayed on even when I took the key out and locked the car.
Is there a way to disable that?
I just hate to disconnect and reconnect (or on/off) my radar detector every time I exit the vehicle. Even though I doubt it would drain much power from the battery if it left on and with the auto cut-off feature, I just feel weird to have it on while parked on the street and sometime I might not drive it for a long period of time.
P.S. I know using the power from the ashtray is an alternative but I prefer using the one from the the passenger side.

I didn't even know that one was there! Thanks! :)

Check after 10-20 minutes to determine whether it's still on.

I bet it isn't, but in any event the car's systems won't let the battery be run down.

I did... I purposely left the radar unplugged since 9PM last night and this morning at 8AM it was still on... :nix:

Thats strange. In my 07, it will shut the power off to the pass side outlet after about 20 minutes. Wonder if for 08 they made it an always on supply?
Regardless, as ikchris mentioned, the system is designed shut down if it realizes that the battery is draining. But I have seen several posts for dead batteries, so ...

I have an 07 ML 320 CDI. The same 12V powerpoint on passenger side and under dash and on the rear of the center console also stay hot 24/7. I have not checked the rear one but I suspect it also stays hot. Yes, the one in the ash tray goes off with the key off.
My radar detector has a mute button on the 12V adapter and is more convienient plugged into the ash tray as I can mute false alarms easier than reaching to the windshield. I have the new Escort with GPS which allows you to mark false alarms such as door openers, but you need the mute button to set it.
