ML 350 needs new tires

These stock Continentals are getting thin. Any input on other good tires out there? Good tread, traction and price?

Michelins are better than Continentals.

I went with Bridgestone Alenzas. Great tire with great tread. Makes the ML ride a little rougher which I liked. The Michelin Latitudes make the ML ride too soft like a Lexus RX.

Replaced the original OEM Michelins with Cooper CS4 touring. About 122 each. Stick to the road like glue, have 20k on them and remain quiet. Live in Upstate NY where winters are nasty but always pulled me through. Would highly recommend them. New ML being delivered in 2 weeks. I wish it was coming with Coopers.

Cooper are part of Avon, a British tire (tyre!) company who have made performance tires for cars -- Jaguars in particular -- and motorbikes for years.

Almost any replacement tire will be better than OEM tires because so many OEMs are custom built down to a price for a specific manufacturer and/or model. Contis are known for good performance but poor wear characteristics. I wouldn't say Michelins are generally better -- some are better in some respects, some are worse. It all depends on what is important to you: comfort? noise? roadholding? wet weather performance? long life? price? I may think a particular tire is fabulous, you may think it sucks, because we are judging it by different criteria. But one thing is for sure: almost every modern tire is outstanding at something. If it weren't, the company would be out of business in a week.

Stay away from Continentals

Dump any idea of buying Contis. I have them on my new '09 and they are TERRIBLE. Soft sidewalls and miserable handling characteristics. I look forward to rolling my Contis into the river. ;-)

Go to Michelin, Nitto or Yokahoma premiums tires.
