ML350 Brake Wear Message
Hi,
I replaced my brake pads and the Brake Pad wear message will not go away. Before I changed the pads it would come on almost every time I pressed the brake pedal. Now it only comes on one time when I start the truck. I push the menu button and it goes away but it is still shows I have 1 message stored. Do I need to take to the dealer to have the message erased?
Thanks!

You either did not replace the sensors, or, damaged them in the install or used aftermarket pads. Any of the above will cause your issue.

Question
I just had a conversation with a mechanic today about replaceing brakes and he said they were very expensive on this vehicle Quoted me a price of around $1600. Does this sound about right? Thanks

I think the dealership would be less. I am not sure but the last time I had my pads and rotors replaced at the dealership it was about 950. I will look when I get home.

WOW that would be a first! NY prices may be high in comparison to your neck of the woods but, I look forward to hearing from you. Also I assume they'd change the sensors as part of the job at the dealership. Did you do the job yourself?

I was incorrect. I called the dealer and they told 1500 if they had to replace pads, rotors and sensors on all four wheels. They told they would measure the width of the rotors and if out of spec they would replace them. So I would call your local dealer because it sounds like the shop you talk to is going to replace the rotors without checking to see if they need to be replaced. I did have all work done on my truck untill the warranty expired this year. I did replace the pads on the rear last weekend. It was easy and took about 45 min. Did not replace the rotors because the dealer replaced on my last brake job.

I mean I had all work done at the dealer until my truck was out of warranty. By the way I replaced the sensor and the message went away. The part cost 12 at the dealer!

SOunds high to me when you can get the parts including front and rear rotors as well as the pads for about $450 Check prices yourself here http://www.rockauto.com/ If you're not comfortable with doing the job yourself, then find a good independent shop and you'll still save yourself some $$

Thanks for your help too Chad. Maybe I'll give it a try and save some $$. You're an inspiration. Keep up the good work.
