2006 & Later MY Balance Shaft Class Action Lawsuit
Hi all, I don't think this has been posted yet. For all the 06' and up ML owners that had balance shafts replaced, costing as much as $7,000, after your warranty ran out, there has been a recent class action lawsuit filed.
I only came up on this information as two weeks ago, my relatively low mileage (49K) 06' began acting funky. Thank goodness it was (only) the transmission control module that needed replacement. However that was still $1K!
There is a list of VINs of the engines that affects many MY 06, 07, and maybe 08 models on this forum.
I don't have much more information than what is included in this pdf. If you have had this problem, there is also a facebook group entitled "Mercedes - Benz (Balance Shaft Problems)."
The PDF is located here: http://www.courthousenews.com/2010/10/07/Mercedes.pdf

Another balance shaft failure
My 2006 ML 350 has had intermittent problems over the last year w/engine vibration at speeds or when turning. The dealer replaced a cam sensor 12/09. The next time the CEL came on, they put in engine cleaner. Recently happened 10/14/10 while out of town. They now say the balance shaft needs to be replaced for $5200. The extended warranty expired 10/21/10 and they won't offer goodwill as I have 91k miles. I hope the class action will help someday. Thanks for the heads up.

Here's a link to the facebook page, we're trying to organize a head count on all cases regardless of out of pocket cost. If you have the balance shaft diagnosis join at:

My 2006 R350 is in the shop again after having the intake manifold replaced and now the balancing shaft needs to be replaced. I hope to see the car in 10 days. Is anyone else concerned about MB quality??

MB balance shaft problem
For the last 12 months, the repair cost for my 2006 ML 350 topped $8000. today again, Mercede Benz service shop told me that The balance shaft needs to be replaced, this repair alone will cost me $5500 to $7000 plus tax. I am frustrated about the made-quality of ML 350. hope winning the MB balance shaft class action lawsuit in the future would pay back some of my repair cost for this faluty car.

MBWorld Fanatic!
The persons putting forth the suit lost.
Sad, since one expects Mercedes to be held to a higher standard than say, Yugo or FIAT. Sorry. no.
