Recommended Tire For ML350?
 

Hi MB World Experts...

Our ML 350 has 75K and Im on my second set of Continential fast-wearing rim protectors.

Im looking for advice on a good highway/city tire; zero off road use. Need something OK in the snow here in Ohio but not a snow tire.

Im also interested in a very low noise tire and want to keep my total out the door purchase under 750...

In my previous 3 E-Classes I had Michelin Pilot Series All-Season tires and they were awesome. My current E has Bridgestone P-Zero Nero All-Season tires. I haven't used the Bridgestones in the snow yet but they are quiet on the road and grippy in the wet. If you can find these tires on Tire Rack for your ML I would definitely get them.

what size wheel do you have?

Edit: OK, 17" wheels are the same I have on my '99 ML430. Below is what I've written on another board about tires.
Michelin Cross Terrain - the best all weather tire I have ever had, combining great wear and traction. Currently have 40K miles with 7/32 tread still remaining. Traction - flawless in thousands of miles thru Colorado ski country. I can't comment on ride comfort since they're on a '99 430, basically a truck to start with.

You have to help us first by providing wheel size as the other poster said. Big price difference among different sizes

Believing in the concept "all-season tire" is like believing in the tooth fairy. Or more nicely, it's wishful thinking.

When my original contis wore out i replaced them with Toyo Proxes ST2. I have several thousand miles on them and they are quiet and wearing slower than Contis and will be in your price req.

I had Goodyear Fortera TripleTred tires on my last ML and loved them. Quiet and great handling dry and wet. When I traded the ML for my '06 ML I had close to 45k miles on them with lots of tread left.

I am also deciding to replace my Continental 4x4 due to average traction in the snow. I had Michelin MXV4 on my older 2006 ML350 with 17 inch rims and they were fantastic. I currently have a new 2010 ML350 with 19 inch rims and I am leaning towards the Michelin Latitude Tour all season tires due to better reviews on tirerack.com. Does anyone have these and like them in the snow? How is the ride and thread life compared to the Continentals?

I have Michelin Latitude Tour HP on my ML 350. Smooth ride, quiet. Better traction than Continentals that came on the vehicle as OE tire. Cannot comment on snow as I live in FL, but rain traction is very good.

I just bought tires for my wife's '08 ML550 on Friday, and spent a bit of time talking tires with independant shop owner I use. He told me that tire is being phased out.

I've run them on both an '05 ML500 and an '07 GL450.
Fairly quiet, nice dry grip, wet grip, and pulled me around in last winter's big snow very nicely.

Don't have these on our ML, but prior vehicle was an R class and we had these tires in the 19", likely same size you're considering. They were great tires that wore like iron. They were quiet, as you note, and also we drove in one of the worst snow storms I've ever seen last December and they handled the roads fantastic (over 2 feet of snow in some of the areas we were driving). I'd recommend them without question.

FYI, just put the Latitude Alpin runflat tires on our ML and they too are performing as expected.

My sister in law bought a 2011 ML350 4Matic last year. Tires are 265/45/20. She has Toyo's on there now and they ride like crap. Any recommendations on a great all season tire? She's in the Bronx, NY so rain and snow are always a factor throughout the year. She's also a "spirited driver" and does alot of city and highway driving. Thanks

Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Had them on my ML350 and the wife's C300. Great tire! Look at the reviews on Tire Rack (no affiliation with them other than a customer).

Six years since my last post
 

Six years and I'm still a Michelin man. I don't think the Cross Terrains are available anymore, at least not in the size required for newer ML's. I use Michelin Lattitude Tour HP on my wife's 2013 with 19" wheels. 255/50 R 19's. Have been very pleased with the ride, noise, traction, and tread life of these tires. I think they last way longer than the factory supplied Continental's.

Toyo Versado CUV, best tires I've had, very quiet and currently have 50,000 miles on them and look as though I'm going to get another 15,000 plus out of them. Amazing in snow as well, I cannot recommend them enough.

I live in MA and need "all season" for our winters. I have used Nokian tires for years. Great ride in summer and winter and they go over 40k before wearing.......

I'm considering the Michelin Premier LTX but the tread life is poor making the tread life per dollar a poor consumer choice - any recommendations? I live in New England and need tires that run effectively in the inclement weather - snow, ice, rain, etc.

I have Michelin Premier LTX on my ML and they rock in rain & dry. Live in FL so not sure about snow. Can’t go wrong with Michelin.

There is only one tire. And if you are in Ohio, you have a Costco. Michelin. Michelin puts more money into technology research than any other manufacturer. Period. I am trying to get rid of the Continentals on my E, but with the tire package, they keep failing every 10k miles, so Merceds keeps giving them me for free. Still don't like them. We have had...6 ML?'s My wife actaully can go 30k on a latitude. Miracle. Then when we bring them in, we get half our money back in pro rate. Some vendors started saying Costo tires are seconds, that is why they are cheap. Nope, they simply self insure which is how they get the price down, plus the shear volume. We live in PA, we drive the Lattitudes in everything. Continentals? Nah, put Blizacks on for the winter.

I've really enjoyed using Continental's ExtremeContact DWS because they were comfortable and affordable. Used them on several vehicles, including my E53 X5.

I had the Michelin Premier LTX and they were good in rain and moderate snow but treadlife was the downside. At 40K miles they were at the replacement bars which was a disappointment given the cost :mercy: I decided to take a risk with the Nankang SP-9 255/50R19. They handle snow the same as the Michelin Premier and are very quiet. Given the cheap price if I get around 40K I will be impressed.
