Question about swapping tires and TPMS

Hi friends:
So I tried having my 19" AMG rims/tires swapped for a 20" AMG set and asked to have the TPMS sensors of the 19" put on the 20", but Just Tires said, after actually looking, that they cannot be moved to the new set. They don't even have a set of sensors, so it was not like they are trying to sell me a set. Is that true?
Basically they say/think that if they take them off the 19s then they won't go on the 20s, they will be damaged....
They did not charge me anything.

Interestingly, searching this, and other forums (fora), I found some people transferring sensors from one set of rims to another, while others cannot do it. I wonder if it's a model year issue, or something like that.

The only reason they couldnt is if the shape of the rim is different. You may need to purchase TPMS sensors for AMG rims. You may need to check with a dealer and see if the part numbers are different

I am pretty sure they were saying that the sensor will be damaged once removed. Both sets are AMG. I saw elsewhere, too, that once removed, something needs to be replaced for the same sensors to be re-used. I e-mailed my service advisor at MB and we will see what he says...

I recently replaced my non-AMG 20" rims with 20" OEM AMG rims from an ML63 To make the swap work I needed 4 TPMS rebuild kits ($20.00/TPMS from MB). Without the rebuild kit my tires would not hold air for longer than 3-4 days. Ask about the rebuild kit before purchasing new $270.00 TPMS sensors from MB. BTW, Tire Rack also sells TPMS sensors for the ML at 1/2 the cost MB charges.

Discount Tire Direct.com should have TPMS rebuild kits as well.

They claimed they did not have what was needed... They worked on 1-2 tires before they realized they could not do it... And they did not charge me anything. I will try an see what the dealer can do, unless it's an arm and a leg to do it there. I have a 40k service coming up, so maybe I will throw that in there...
