LOL!!
A friend of mine bought a 2012 ml350 bluetec roughly 2 months ago. Went on a long drive with his wife and accidently put gas in instead on diesel. Got the ml shipped back to town cause it pretty mich shut down on them. He tried to tell mb service that it was "ethanol diesel" type of thing.
I highly doubt that this would be under warranty. Mb is trying to work something out with him or whatever right now. Do you guys think his engine is toast? Im very curious on what his bill is gonna run him! |
Usually when this happens you just have to pump out all of the gas in the tank and it's fine. A relative has done this to their 450SD multiple times and they had the gas station pump it out and it's OK. Might be different with the newer cars and all their gizmos though.

My service advisor told me a similiar story, except the owner wanted MB to pay. I got a good chuckle out of that one. In this case, I hope the ML is taken away from her and she is given a more deserving vehicle like a Ford Escape.

I don't think it's funny. It happens all the time.
The Diesel nozzle will not fit a Gas tank but a Gas nozzle will fit a Diesel vehicle. Something should be done about that like one is Round and the other is Square and neither will fit the other. Not too long ago a member of this forum put gas in his aunt's diesel ML. He was devastated and was panicking trying to get it fixed before his aunt found out. Mike |
The fuel cap and lid says Diesel. You bought it as a diesel. You see a glow plug light every time you turn the ignition on. Operator error on that one.:smash:
As for the bill, depends on the damage. If it shut down right away, they will flush the system, and all is well. Maybe some injectors and a new filter. Hopefully. Usually though the engine will catch on fire. Have seen 2 burned to a crisp at my local dealership over the last 5 years because of this. |

Im hoping my wife dont do the same. Lol |
Sadly I must confess...
I was in a hurry and without thinking put half a tank of petrol in my 350CDI. Drove it about a kilometre and felt a strange rattle - realised my mistake - and pulled immediately into another servo and filled up with diesel. It took about a minutes cranking before it coughed into life with a cloud of black smoke, then settled down to a smooth idle. I estimate the fuel was 90% petrol at first but only 40% petrol after the second fill. I drove that tank very gently until 1/2 empty then refilled (with diesel) and have had no further trouble for the last 40,000km. I offer no excuse but stupidity. I have driven diesels since 1988, simultaneously with petrols and never come close to this stuffup before or since. :smash: |
People do that all the time here on base in Germany, they rent a vehicle and I would say 8 out of 10 rentals here are diesels and then they gas up here on base filling it up with gas instead of diesel, its happened so often that they started using taped white letters on the outside gas door "DIESEL". I will have to take a pic and post it here, its funny and sad at the same time.

First of all, it is not funny, ***** happens... who knows what was on his mind when he did that.
Most of the time you could just get away with draining the fuel tank and priming it properly with Diesel, if the engine wasn't running for a long time, but if not then tough luck... It could be either just the fuel pump that went kaput or took the fuel lines along with it... FYI: If you are asking here to help him out then you might wanna tell him to talk to his insurance... |
