Leaking Fuel Filter

Just found that my fuel filter is leaking on top. The two clamps visible in the attached picture are tight. My Indie is closed until tomorrow. They replaced it per the maintenance schedule in Feb. 2013.

Any suggestions that I can do before taking it in?

Thanks.

Those are not the MB Clic clamps. While they are tight, I doubt they are providing a good seal around the entire hose. If they don't want to spring for the MB clamps they should at least be using something like these.

Clamps

I agree, someone put regular hose clamps on there. I change my own filter and use the fuel line clamps like he showed in the attached pic, the MB clicker clamps are a little of a pain. I've had no leaks or problems with the fuel line clamps.

It's probably not the fuel lines/clamps leaking. More likely is that the o-ring sealing the water sensor (black thing in the middle) are leaking. It's an easy fix, just remove, replace O-rings, reinstall. The O-rings should be replaced every time the filter is changed, but not all filters include them in the kit. BTDT.

After posting I decided to recheck the tightness of the clamps with a socket instead of the screwdriver I used before. Tightened up the right side hose about 1/8th of a turn. When I tried to do the same on the left side it 'skipped'. Appears to be where the fuel is leaking from.

Went to AutoZone and picked up this clamp, http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attac...hose_clamp.jpg, for the left side. They did not have the same style in 3/4 inch which is what the right side is.

Replaced the left clamp and will monitor.

Thanks for heads up on the type of clamp to use!

@Shadow5501 was correct. Turns out the leak was from the o-ring seals of the water sensor. My local MB dealer did not have the seals in stock so took it back to my MB Indie shop. They replaced the entire fuel filter not wanting to take a chance that the internal fit of the water sensor might also be faulty. Only charged me $48 which I thought was fair.

Did you determine what this is? Mine is doing the same I was thinking it might be that little cap on the sensor as I see fuel coming out of it. Going to try replacing this.
