$2600 for a headlight!
2009 ML 350. Replaced the low beam headlight bulb 3months ago and it went again last week. I suspected an issue with the headlight assembly and took it to the dealer. They told me there was water damage to the controller and that it would require a new headlight assy, $2600 installed! Is this insane or what? Does anyone know of an after market headlight for this vehicle?

The bi-xenon headlights for my wife's Porsche Cayenne are $1100 each, but, considering it's a 10 minute job to replace one, I can't see it running $2600 installed... IIRC, it was $1200 installed for one last time.
So, yes, $2600 seems pretty crazy.
BTW, the MSRP of the active lighting headlight is $1600. I can't see it being a $1000 labor job to replace. http://www.mbonlineparts.com/parts/2...w=21&maxRow=10

What brand bulb did you use? Are we talking Xenon here? The whole thing sounds like BS. 2600 will buy a lot of bulbs and if its just a control unit why are we replacing the whole assembly? Get the pn of the control unit, check eBay and get a mechanic that doesn't mind installing used parts. But first just replace the bulb with a quality bulb such as Philips before you panic. Cheap bulbs will blow frequently.

I used - 12-volt, 35-watt (D1S), Brand: Osram-Sylvania, Xenon Headlamp Bulb. This had been replaced by a dealer just months before I did it again, so this is the third bulb to go just recently. The water damage has been confirmed by an Indi shop and they have quoted me $1400 with a refurb assembly.
