2008 ML320 CDI Cosmetic Modifications

Hi guys, I went through about 50 pages of the w164 ML threads and can't find much info and rest that is out dated so I figured I make a new thread and see what the active members with the W164 ML series think of these.

Alittle background on modifying;
I am new to the ML scene, I've had the car since new but it wasn't much more than a DD. I did have fun in the VW scene and been active on golfmk6.com with over 11k posts and shared my knowledge.

But I am now selling the vw and parting it out, so I noticed couple things lacking with my ML that I had in the VW. The car needs lighting upgrades all around.

so I want to upgrade;
So yeah, I have been doing a lot of research, and will post all the stuff I find here, and we shall go from here. I hope to talk to you guys and listen to what you have to say.

Shall miss this gal:

Some insight on these would be helpful.

LED taillights? Im looking for a set that wouldn't need a SAM upgrade.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
There are 3 or 4 types of led taillights that wouldn't need new SAM. Some of them are just like OEM. You can find them all on ebay just like the ones you added.
Interior and exterior leds - since your's is a preface, you won't have any problems or error codes.
For led fogs and headlights check here:
https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w...-overdose.html
About the black and white theme -Go for it. Mine is a black and white and I haven't actually met anyone who doesn't like it except for these guys here in the forum....
Good luck with the mods and don't forget to post pics.

Great! So the ones I posted are green light to purchase?

Also can I put an hid kit in the DEPO headlights? I'm assuming it will be an H7. I want to get the Mtec kit.

Yes the ones you posted should be ok, but just to be sure contact the seller before you buy.

I have a friend who installed a h7 hid kit in his '07. He needed to add load resistors because it gave him error codes, but I don't think you will have that problem with the mtec kit.

I bought the MTEC HID KIT for the regular headlights, because I do not trust the quality of the depo headlights as well as do not want to deal with coding or errors.

"google MTEC HID KIT" bought mine from ebay, from seller auto-perfect, made an offer for $240 and it was accepted. I ordered the 6000k as I like the cool blue more.

I also bought the LED tailights that I linked above on the previous post.

Still reading more information on the led foglights. Only reason why I would want to buy them is so they are DLR and my headlights are not on 24/7.

Up next is getting led bulbs for everything in the car.

Then Plasti dip the wheels gloss black.

Don't bother with the mtec kit and mating it up with the depos. The projectors on the depos is a joke, such a narrow beam width. I retrofitted evox-r's(true hid replacement for the projectors on a lot of Mercedes including ml) on to the depos. It does require some dremel cutting, although they do fit the stock housing with no modification. I do like the matt black on my depos including the led strip. Since you already bough the mtec kit, just buy the evox-r's with some real d2s bulbs and use the mtec ballasts. Good luck. Here are some pics.

hey yister,

Im not buying the depos. Im using the oem projectors. I don't want to spend that much money on modifying the ML as it is a DD. The oem cut outs should be good enough of an upgrade to get by vs the halogens.

Question:

Can I just plug everything like it says in the instruction and not get an error code like they claim?

Also got my led taillights. Will give those a go as well and give feedback once I get sometime to install them.

As long as the ballasts are canbus/error free, they should not throw a code. I have the Hyluxtec canbus and they're fine.
The LED tail lights did give me problems though. It'll tell you that the bulbs are out and it's using subsitiute lights instead. Also at night, one of the brake lights will be dim from the other. I went through 2 sets and both did the same thing. Not enough the cops will pull you over, but annoying.

When replacing your tail lamps -> Make sure they do not leak water to the inside. When the SAM gets wet....it will cost you $$$$. So be very very sure about waterproofing the lamps.

I forgot to update the thread. The links i posted that I purchased were all safe, and they have been working perfectly for months now. The HID kit in the oem headlights have been a very good upgrade, also the taillights get an issue when you first plug everything, btw the fitment was very good. but all I had to do was move some pins around the plug and voilą, no errors no brake light problems or dimming issues.

Now I just need to get led license plate bulbs that don't throw an error code. Any suggestions? People are saying after 08' and after all get errors. Any help would be appreciated guys. The ugly colour of the halogen led bulb does not compliment the very sharp look of the led taillights.
