Opinions on ML320 CDI
Yesterday, my wife and I test drove '08 ML320 with 68k miles that a local Ford dealership is selling. This was our first encounter with a Merc, and a diesel. I was presently surprised by how nimble it felt and the abundance of torque it displayed. We will probably walk away from this one as our test drive discovered a popcorn sound through 1st and 2nd gear from the rear while accelerating hard from a stop , more pronounced throughout 2nd gear. I found a thread here that suggests the noise maybe transfer case failure. I also read that there a few other things to look out for, such as:
1. Oil Cooler Seal Leaks
2. Power Steering Rack problems
3. Front Diff. bearings
4. Central Door Locking
All that being said, I'm seriously thinking about this as a replacement for our recently totaled XC90.
My question is to ML320 owners:
1. Are you happy with you purchase?
2. Has it been expensive to own out of warranty?
3. Are there other concerns I should look for?
