ml 350 2010 rattle at 1500 rpm
Hi Guys,
Our Ml 350 has an annoying metal sounding rattle/hum at 1500rpm up to about 1800rpm, have done an internet search which has not seemed to help......however i am sure i googled it a few months ago and quite a few threads seemed to come up regarding it.
The car runs great otherwise, i have checked everything i can to see if theres anything loose but can't find anything......any ideas what part maybe starts at the 1500rpm.
Thanks for reading
Bob

I know what it is! :)
I can guarantee (at least 98% anyhow) that I know exactly what the problem is.
Mine started vibrating between 1500-1800rpm. Did it in every gear so I knew it wasn't transmission related. Was either engine related, or something attached to engine.
If I left my ashtray open (full of coins) you could distinctly hear the coins vibrate at exactly this range. The problem started one day and never went away.
Replaced transmission mount and problem was GONE.
I was told to replace the engine mounts too, but I tried the transmission mount first to see what happened. My engine mounts look fine.
It's a relatively easy job with some sockets and a shop jack. You basically lift the truck up on ramps, very slightly (1/4") raise the transmission so it isn't putting pressure on the mounts/plate. Then pull off a metal panel with a bunch of bolts going into the subframe. Replace mount and reinstal.
There are some WIS directions floating around you can look at, but if you're having a shop do this, hand them the mount and they'll know exactly where it is and what to do when the truck is on a hoist.
