ML320CDI Transmission Service

Hey guys...

I'm just trying to get some opinions on whether or not to service the transmission on our 2008 ML320 CDI. Its not doing anything wrong but we haven't done it since we got the car in 2013, with just under 60k miles. The dealership has confirmed that the 40k trans service was completed in 2011, and apparently, that's the last time this transmission has to be serviced according to Mercedes.

I have read others say that it's a good idea to service it anyway but I don't know if that is warranted, or not.

If anyone has an educated opinion on this topic, I'd certainly like to hear about it. I just want to make sure the vehicle holds up as long as it can. (we plan on keeping it until it indefinitely)

I thought the service interval was changed to every 40k miles, which makes sense anyway for the long haul. At the least I would do a drain and fill every 40k after the first complete fluid change.

I had the transmission done again at 80K miles and will continue every 40K miles.

It might have but that's not what the dealership is telling me. My maintenance passport doesn't say either. That's one of the reasons why I'm asking the community; I honestly don't know what the consensus is.

trans fluid

Mine certainly shifts smoother after fluid change. I would definitely change if towing.

We don't really tow but we do have a move coming up where we might have to haul a lot of weight. Good tip! Thanks!!!

I would assume your maintenance passport is a prepaid service plan.
If so, I would consider it to provide the minmum basic service for the warranty interval.
