GL power folding seat locking solenoid not activating
Hi,
A week after purchasing this GL, while demonstrating the rear power seats, the locking mechanism decided to stop working. The power motor works, the seat goes up and down completely, but when the seat hits the stop, the locking solenoid doesn't fire. The lock is rather loud, and I know for sure that it's not even trying. This isn't a case of something is in the way of the lock and it's not latching. This means that it won't lock in the up or down position, and every time the car is started, the screen displays that reminder that it's not locked.
With the seat folded down, and the rear cargo flap flipped up, I can see the motor assy, and the 4 bolts holding the seat in.
Is there a fix out there for this?
Thanks,
Travis T.

If he is referring to the 2009 GL in his signature, then he is in the right place.
Check extra carefully under the seat for objects if it is in the "down" position that it won't lock. When I bought mine, it wouldn't lock and there was a kid's toy preventing the seat from completely folding (and locking). It looked completely folded, but wasn't far enough (by a very small amount) so it couldn't lock.
If in the up position, I can't help. At that point sounds like you need to replace a solenoid.
DAS/Xentry will tell you the source of the error so have the car scanned before replacing expensive parts.

The truck you are pointing out above is a G-class which is again a totally different truck.
GL and ML are quite similar for the most part. GLA is a lot smaller and newer. G looks totally different and has been around a lot longer.

I do know my Mercedes SUV's and forums well., however it doesn't appear that you do. You referred him to the GLA forum which his truck is not. He has an X164 GL which is basically a lengthened W164 plaform. His GL is basically a longer ML.

Oh gosh, you guys. That was totally unnecessary, yet I'll take the brunt of the blame here. In fact, I WAS in the right forum because this is the forum I chose, intentionally. The GL and ML are similar in many ways, including the rear folding seats, and the motors that run them. There are far more MLs on the road, meaning more data points to choose from when troubleshooting.
So, to all the ML users out there who have folding seats like my GL, have any of you had the seat not lock in the UP AND down position? My issue is not a debris interference issue. I believe it's electro-mechainical in nature. Also, is the locking mechanism separate from the seat motor?
Thanks.

I have never seen an ML with motorized rear folding seats. The GL's have that third row option, not the ML's to my knowledge, which is why you should ask in the GL forum.
