Looking at ML350 tomorrow -what do I look for?

Hey guys, I am a W204 (2014 c250 coupe) owner.

We are looking at a clean looking 2008 ML350 4Matic with 119k. It doesn’t seem to have many options based on the VIN lookup. I am hoping it has heated seats and it’s just not listed....

What do I need to look for in terms of maintenance that should be done and common problems?

its white, of course. I will need to add running boards.

Any input is welcome. Thanks
chaz

Well worth investing the $200 or so for a Pre-Purchase Inspection done at your local MB dealer.

It's pretty well loaded but it has imitation leather and it does not have heated seats, which would be code 873.

If you have a scanner bring it with you and scan the entire car.

See I didn’t think it was too well loaded. No keyless go, no pano roof (not sure it was even available) no running boards .... but it looks clean and the price is right

do the MLS have transmission issues?

All MLs from 2006 on had eng. and trans issues. See if you can find a 2006-2008 ML500, not 550s. They still have the similar W163 engines.

went to see ML350 - what a piece of crap.

NO maintenance records. Error code for air box flap or something.. stuttered went accelerating. was very dirty

do al ML's drive like a truck? That was my first experience. I MUCH prefer a GLC, which has a nice ride.

My '11 ML350 (115k) drives more like a large car than a truck. Not fast, very comfortable with a bit of body sway (my wife's main complaint!)

After shopping around for a lot of older (5+yo) Euro cars, you have to get good at the phone interview before you waste any time. I ask for maintenance records over the phone, its especially handy to get them to email you a copy of the last service. If the last one was 12k miles ago at Jiffy Lube, you know you can end the conversation quickly. The owner of a solid car is going to be proud of the recent work done to it. Asking about what they are replacing it with is always telling. If its a Honda or Toyota, that's another sign. Also I avoid mom & pop used car lots like the plague. 99 times out of 100 the cars there are neglected rejects from a franchised dealer that went to auction and were fixed up on a slim budget.

Here as some ideas of things to ask about before commiting to the drive:

Good luck! A nice ML will glide quietly down the road!
