W164 ML350 Cooling System Capacity

I have decided, while my car is undergoing additional repairs, to drain and flush the cooling system on my 2007 ML350 4Matic. The owner's manual indicates that the capacity for my USA 2007 ML350 sold in Massachusetts is 10 quarts. A free site with usually reliable information, workshop-manuals, indicates that both the 2006 and 2009 ML350 w164 chassis vehicles with the M272 engines, have a capacity of 6.5 liters. This is obviously very inconsistent with the information in my owner's manual. I have done 3 or 4 distilled water flushes, allowing the engine to reach and maintain normal operating temperature between each flush. The first distilled water flush had a lot of color to it, indicating to me that it was mixing with a fair amount of original liquid still in the system. In fact, it looked like it might be 2/3rds water and 1/3rd coolant, making the 10 quart capacity very believable.

I can't locate the block drains, for if I could, the capacity wouldn't matter. I would then just add a 50:50 diluted mix to the system until full, run the engine, and tomorrow when the engine was cold, prior to the first start, adjust the fluid to the final cold level.

Any help or expertise is greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.

Steven

Whatever the owner's manual says on the amount of coolant is correct, which is a completely empty engine.

The engine block drains are to the right and left of the engine mounts.

Thank you

Thank you very much. My final drain via the radiator yielded slightly more than 8 quarts, so I surmised that the 10 quarts listed in the owner’s manual was correct. I will once again look for those block drains.

My most sincere thanks, for everything.
