2008 ml350 (w164) whine noise when step on gas
hi all, i recently bought a 2008 ML and every time i step on the gas i hear a whine like noise. nothing pitchy but sort of like a mechanical whine audible only when i step on gas. i wonder if this is normal? saw a video posted here long ago that it might have something to do with the tensioner pulley.

any thoughts?

Do you hear the noise when you are stopped with the transmission in P, and you press the gas pedal to raise the engine rpm?

yes and is more noticeable when the AC is on, any ideas?

More noticeable with ac on suggests pulley, belt or ac compressor.

What other symptoms do you experience?

Mine made a whine noise like that for a while before the AC compressor stopped working.
